Anyone not using a heater?

Just wondering if I really need a heater on my new 120. Seems my 65 gal always stays at 80.5 with the MH's on. Drops to 78-79 at night. Heater never comes on.

Anyone in the Midwest not using a heater?

I posted in another forum and only got replies from reefers in Florida.

I don't use a heater on my 72. I have a sump on a reverse light schedule, but only with PC's. I have MH's on the main tank. The temp only swings a degree or so.

I dont have one in my 72gal. bow. House a/c is at 74, running 320w pc lighting and 25w uv. temp likes to stay at 80 but usually once a day my chiller will kick on to keep it there. All my equipt. is in a cut out corner where not much air flow so it heats up, small fan and chiller fixed that. And its on 2 outside walls. I think i will need 2 heaters in the winter.

I have one but if I check the log it hasn't been on since Feb. Although at that time I was using the built in seasonal changes in the Aquacontroller 3 unit (I just got it and hadn't learned how to get all the controlling programming in it). Now I have it set for a low of 78.5 so I'm sure it will kick on more often this fall and next spring. Def. it will during the winter.

Winter is what I was wondering about. I'll get one, they are not that much anyway.

What heater(s) would you recommend for a system with total volume of approximately 180 gallons?

I'm using a finnex titanium 500w on 210 total system volume. I do use the 800w max controller with it and then still controlled by my ac3 so I have a double protection in it. I have the finnex one set for 80 and then that way if the ac3 sticks on it will stop, or the other way around. If I did it over I would probably use 2 250 or 300 watt ones instead of one single one.

i would use two heaters as opposed to one big one, just to be safe if one fails, better safe than sorry.

My temp got up to 90.6 the other night so I unplugged all my lights, and hooked up a big fan. The next night it was still at 85° I looked at the Wons pro heater and it was sitting on 76°, however it was still heating the water. I have unplugged that and now my tank is back down to 80°. That is the 3rd heater I have had that has failed and heated the tank up to the 90's. All heaters were less than year and half old.

I don't mean to hijack but since we are speaking of heat. I have a Pan world external pump that has really started to heat up the water. For months my tank stayed at 78.7 with the MH off now with the MH off its at 79.2 and when the Mh kicks on my chiller goes into overdrive. Not looking forward to th eelectric bill.Any ideas?
