Anyone notice a huge jump in activity post swap?

I noticed that the swap has really kicked the forum into active mode lately. I think it's a great way to get people back into the community of reefkeeping =)

We all get this rush from giving out our corals and trading from the swap, and I think it just takes off. It's great!

i do too. now we need at late summer early fall swap.:)
Shhh. Secrket plans have been discussed!

I'm just start getting into saltwater ... hopefully, I will have some cool frags to take to the next frag swap! it wil be my first swap!

I'm one of those to blame! First it was lurking....then it was "What tank should I get?", then it was "Am I cycled?" then it was, "What is this thing growing in my tank?" then it was "How do I kill this thing in my tank?" then it was the scientific name of a soft coral, then thoughts of fish, then it there was the swap, then it was, "I need better lighting!" ....oh dear, I'm affraid you guys have created a montser :P

So about my next question........:)

But for real, I never had a chance to thank any of the BAR members for all there help on the forum and at the swap, so a BIG THANKS to everyone, now lets see if I can get my post rate up to 1.8per day ;).

Cheers,

Josh

I think it's great! I'm happy to be more active again. When I got married and my hubby made me downsize my tanks I was feeling kind of blah, but now I feel insipred again.

I don't think it's all about the "free stuff" but it is cool that we are able to grow corals efficiently enough to be able to give them away. People want diversity in their tanks, and if we can do that without damaging the environment, that is awesome. Also, the satisfaction of growing a coral from a small frag is so much greater than just going to buy a whole colony. And with how much people spent on the raffles, well, let's just say it wasn't free!

I did fish only's for many years.
I wanted to try a real reef, and my research lead me to BAR.
The Feb. 10 swap really inspired me.
(Heck, I'm looking at prop tanks now..:D )

I had a blast!
I hope your first swap inspires you too.

Now if we can just get these types of attendance numbers for regular meetings! :) Then I'll have a viable excuse for why I didn't win any raffle prizes :)

I think the best change was not calling the raffle during the swap, but picking and posting numbers. :D

maybe a bigger font for the raffle numbers... and a scrolling marquee to save space. I know a ton of people were having the hardest times reading the raffle numbers. but definately better than just calling them out.

I did like the posting of the raffle #s, it was nice to check every once in a while to see if you won.
It would've been nice to have a 15 minute preview of the corals on the tables since I had a tough time seeing many in the 3 minute timeframe before the next group had to enter.

It would have been helpful if the raffle numbers were posted in numeric order and crossed off when the prize was picked up. But with so many numbers, I realize that would be impossible.

Yes, it was extremely hard to choose corals in that timeframe. Many of them were poorly marked. I noticed a few people posted pictures of the coral on the outside, that was awesome.

Raffle tickets - Is it possible to get tickets with smaller numbers OR use only a single roll of tickets, so that only the last 4 numbers are relevant? (Versus using different rolls with different "significant numbers")

Darcy, I had the opposite happen, after I got married, my step-brother-in-law (twice removed ;) ) gave me a 100g tank he had sitting around ... :p

(Nice "Dowry, eh? :p )
