Anyone picking up HD TV via antenna?

Is anyone picking up HD TV via antenna, particularly in the Kanawha Valley? If so, what antenna are you using and how many channels are you getting? Are the 1080i?

we had an hd tuner in a pc in ashland.. it had a basic antenna we could get 1 - 12 stations.. usually 5.

i think your 1080ness will depend on signal reception.

aiming is very selective.. a real pita..

I've got a couple of the converter boxes hooked up. I can pick up about 13 channels. I'm just using an old set of rabbit ears on the main tv. For the tv in the bedroom I bought a terk powered antenna (paid $100 for it ) but it gets as many channels as the main tv  . The picture is awesome for 480i.

I hooked my neighbors old outdoor antenna to his new LCD and I think he gets like 15 channels but it has a rotator on it so he can move it to tune in a couple channels.

Thanks guys. Some good info in that link.

So it appears Charleston will get HD locals on DirecTV sometime this year. So now I need to decide, to get the antenna and AM21 box or just wait. Hmmmm.....

I called DirecTV on Thursday and asked when local hd channels would be available. All the guy would tell me was that they don't have anything scheduled. :(

One hears so many things, sometimes it is a crap shoot. A friend of mine in the area was told by someone that it would be fall of '09. The installers that put in mine said they heard 3-6months, 6 months ago. Then the link you posted had someone quoting WV would be this year as well as a few other markets. One guy said the guy has never been wrong yet.

I'm just thrilled with what I have so far!

Same here, the hd that I already receive is awesome for my "little" 55" screen. ;)

Of course, it's even better on the slightly larger 106" screen (actually clearer than the 55" LCD). :D

Of course, add the awesome surround and the very sweet SVS PC12-Plus sub and you would be amazed at how enjoyable a movie can be.

Very impressive setup!

Up until winter of '07, I had a 12yo 27" Sony CRT and the tv speakers. Winter 07 we got the Oynko Receiver and Polk speakers, I couldn't believe the difference it make on movies and TV. My wife was even taken back by it. So finally this Christmas we got to upgrade the screen. It is impressive but only when feeding a HD signal. Otherwise, I would just assume to have a much smaller TV.
