Anyone put chaeto in their display?

Getting an order in to put in my reef. I was thinking would it be a good idea to put some in my SH display. I know it's a great breeding ground for pods-but I've only seen chaeto in sumps. I have different types of macro in my display. Would the chaeto take over? Thanks for the help.

I have a ball of chaeto in my SH tank. it is a good place for pods to breed and it won't take over. it doesn't root, it just floats so it can be taken out easily as it grows

I also use a little in my display (about the size of 2-3 softballs sometimes). Like Jason said, chaeto grows doesnt grow invasively so you can easily remove it from where you dont want it, it does grow fast sometimes though.

BTW Jason, nice avatar!

I'm also using it in my display tank shoved behind a piece of Tonga branch towards the top of my tank. I can usually find my horses hunting around it.

I kept various macro algae in my little tank because I like them. I found Caulerpa (various species) becoming a bit of a nuisance as it clings to the substrate, and has to be watched for "dissolving" (sexual propagation).
Also, it was said that Caulerpa can emit poisonous substances into the water. (Other people told me they never had any problem with Caulerpa apart from it growing all over the tank, so I did not seek further information about those "substances").

I now keep only Chaeto and a sort of red algae; neither cling/attach to substrate or rocks. The Chaeto grows rather fast, but can be removed easily if necessary (like Brian77, I stuck it behind a piece of rock to prevent it from floating around).

The red one looks rather beautiful, but grows very slowly.

I can confirm that from all algae I had, the Chaeto is most popular with pods and other small beings.

Kind regards
Annika
