Thanks

Oh right cheers. I thought they were actually part of the led you buy. So how much power do you think them leds are as they look very bright and they are keeping lps corals with them.

At the moment I am looking into a few AquaSunSpot Leds over my tank. How easy is it to make your own led fixture, if I were to use these XM-L type?

That cant be a single LED. That has to be one of those 20w cluster of 12 LEDS (min) or something. If there is only one LED (like a white one) then we would only need 2 LEDs on a 4ft tank and 3 LEDs on a 6 foot tank, but, I do not see any builds like that other than the clustered LEDs.

The amount of LEDs used in a lot of builds is basically overkill. Unless a person is setting up a deep tank or SPS tank, the concern is coverage rather then actual need for wattage.

Its clear that small tank~10 gallons. Its clear that there are 2 leds on there...Yes they COULD be the 10w small panels, but not likely. The white is on right the Royal blue on the left. I would bet anything those are XM-L driven at like 3 amps.

Reefurchin- we have to many leds over a big tank to create coverage.

SHallow- dont bother with aqua sun spot, they are 1 watt leds. XM-L are VERY powerful leds, the lastest and greatest. What size tanks is this going on? for a small tank you are better off with one of these....

If it helps this is the forum I found it on but only if you can speak I'm gonna say French? From what I can read I think there 2x20w. I should have recognized the numbers lol. No wonder they look so bright.

But my tank is a shallow 24" x 16" x 13" so thats why I was looking at the AquaSunSpot the yasha or blenny aqua medic tanks are only 12" high and people are growing lps under 3 of these Sunspot bulbs. I was actually looking to get 3 of the 3x3w (27w altogether) but I am up for anything at the moment and if one of them Par38 bulbs is enough for my tank that would be good.

I am curious to know if one of them will give a good spread over my tank.

Nice dig up!

Im gonna guess that is at least a 12" x 12" tank. whatever the white is, it has perfect(?) spread? If only we knew the true LED fixture (maybe I should check out the link? Hmmmm???), that would cinch it for me. That wattage white plus the blue, maybe x 2 should punch down to a 24" depth. Three per rectangle, aka 9 total and BAM, I am done!

Next question is what is the square inch dimensions of a 37 liter cube?

ok I will look in to them par38s because at the moment I am clueless so much variety out there. I really appreciate all the help so far. So this 1 par38 will be enough for my tank?

I have one more last question though, where can I find the unit to run the par38s? I have read on nano reef forum someone using a normal clamp on desk lamp. Like one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360453002360?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Will that be fine? Cheers

yes, both of those sockets will work.

using one bulb, high enough(20"+ from the substrate) with 80 degree optics will cover 24", BUT it will spill the same amount of light OUT of the tank front and back, thats why it would be preferable to do 2, but thats ALOT of light and double the price. What corals do you want to keep? if you just want lps and zoas and with a 13" deep tank, MAYBE you could get away with the 1 watt leds bulbs, but i personally cant recommend them. however if you wanted SPS/LPS 2 par38 bulbs from rapid would rock.

Thats great cheers, I will be only keeping soft corals with a few lps. How much coverage would a 60 degree lense do?
