Anyone recommend any Ric dose methods

was told that Lugols once per week was great along with phytoplankton. Does anyone know or have a special schedule for maximizing Rics Color, growth and health?
Also How would you feed them phytoplankton?

I dont think lugols is meant for in tank doseing. There are different kinds of iodine and you should not dose anything your not testing for.

I dont see how rics could consume phyto. Mine eat prime reef flake and new life spectrum pellets that they catch when i feed my fish. They will also happily accept anything meaty that they can grab onto like krill.

I just read my lugols, i am wrong it says it is for in tank use.

I personally would not put that crap in my tank, i use it for dips. If you decide you want to use it, get an iodine test kit first and be sure not to over dose.

Who told you this?

thanx aquarium77, my LFS told me this.. I must say they have a very impressive array of Rics and just about anything you can name including the very very very Hot Pink Rics i wish i had picture but my cam does these things no justice.
Anyway I have only dosed once with kents A & B, but i would rather stay simple and natural if possible

Well, it is always good to feed the tank. Not sure if Ric can eat phyto. And I would skip the dip, not sure what it will accomplish, I don't see any benefits that a lugol dip will do for a ricordea. I would think it would actually stress the coral.

I wonder if the LFS perhaps meant they do a lugols dip before adding a coral to the tank?

In any event my rics seem to enjoy small pieces of mysis and do very well even with flakes.. I try to give variety.

I also add coral vibrance (amino acid?) for other corals and i imagine they can eat this too

ok, i have a Red Sea Max 34 gallon with T5 55w 2x how close should i have them to the light?

Those lights are technically Power Compacts compressed into T5 diameter. You should be able to put them anywhere you like as it isn't very strong light.

Let me know how you like the tank, I'm planning on purchasing one in the upcoming months. Hoping they'll come up with a lighting upgrade

Now you tell me, i moved them from the bottom to the middle, i saw it vomiting its guts out, is this a bad sign?

Depends, normally they would expel brown stuff after eating, and they also expel their zoo when in shock like too much lighting. They will bleach.

If you move it down, and let it acclimate and regain their color, they should make a recovery.

Yea its a real bad sign, i hope you moved it back to where it was happy. If you see that again put the yuma in the shade with the lowest flow possible. When its spewin brown junk out after a move or new bulb or something like more flow, better find a way to make it happy again quick or it will die.
Im not trying to make you paranoid, im just telling you how it is from experience, i have lost several. They are one of the most sensative things i have ever tried to keep and i have a sps tank aside from the soft tank.

yeah i moved it back.. i have pics but they need to be cut, will try to get em up tomarrow
oh its Floridian, and i love th Red Sea so far, simple will cool design. We'll see if it keeps animals ok :)

thanx all for all

Dont use Lugols if you cherish your tank .. that stuff made my tank crash and i was dosing it the way it said on the label .. stay away from it ..you don't need anything specific for rics other then good lighting and moderate to low flow .. if you want to feed em .. feed em mysis or a type of pellet you use to feed fish with .

SAPseven i'll take your advice on that i havent used it at all and not a big fan of meds and things. So you put me over the hump with that..

Also my Rics seemed to be doing ok, another one expelled that brown dung again, my LFS guy says its normal if its brown (just wast) but if its white i have a problem. so all seems ok for now

My rics can't and don't catch any food. They seem to rely on photosynthasis. As far as I know, you do not need to feed them. If they get lucky and catch some fish food, be happy.

yeah feeding is wierd, was told that they do absorb food as well as photosynthasis. But it has been confirmed by 3 LFS that the brown stuff is desolved crap and is a good sigh that they are eating.

They look great now
