I was wondering how many of you are running your tank with out a skimmer. I have been running mine for 6 months no problems. I do water changes every week. No fish or corals have died. Everything is healthy. I was just wondering who else was running thiers without one. Alot of people say you need a skimmer? I really dont think its A big deal If you dont have one.

If you read on here a decent amount, you will see that a skimmer is a very highly recomended piece of equipment. There are exceptions to every rule, and if you are trying to justify not spending the money, feel free not to have one. But if you look around, you will see that statistically, skimmers are well worth the cost, and most healthy systems will run them. Can you survive without one, yes, will you be at full potential, probably not. my .02

i ran my old 72 without a skimmer for a year i wouldn't recomend it but i did weekly water changes like you say and i got by but i never thought that my tank didnt need a skimmer. If i wasent upgrading i would of got one. My other skimmer was junk "seaclone" thats another story.
I was of the same opinion.. and wanted to focus on softies/LPS... so I tried it..

3 Months Later (Just before I tore it down and set up a 90, WITH a big skimmer)
I actually went from 5 to 2 fish, so if anything the bioload was less...
It can be done, by why bother when it makes life so much easier?

ran my first tank with a seaclone for 3 months, never even needed to drain the collection cup once during that time.. no matter how i adjusted it.. then unplugged it for another month or two.. so no skimmer at all (no difference than the first 3 months..) fish and corals were fine with regular water changes, but having algae and cyano problems.
got an ER skimmer.. plus carbon/phosban in a reactor.. problems solved! but can be done, but i found all my critters seemed to like it much more with better water quality.
