Anyone seen any Leucokranos recently?

That is a very strange ad. It says that it is WYSIWYG, but all you can do is pre-order, which I assume means they no longer have the fish. That would be a big red flag for me for anything on their site.

In regard to the OP. I don't patrol the wholesalers/LFSs like I used to, but the last ones I saw were a beautiful pair (sandaricinos body shape and color) almost exactly 2 years ago.

It said they were sold to someone in Japan, but I found out later that a local offered more money ($125) and they gave them to him. I was very sad! If I would have known that they were still entertaining offers, I would have gone higher than that.

The only ones I have ever seen at wholesalers were at Pacific Aqua Farms. They used to be the only ones to have a collecting station on the Solomon Islands.

I have seen the fish there in the store and the fish is healthy from what I can see. Just hasn't been sold because people are not willing to pay a lot of money for a fish normally. :(

I'm curious to see what ORA's babies look like considering leucokranos is a hybrid resulting from two different species, and they are breeding two leucs together (hybrid x hybrid).

Yes........the Your Reef fish............is a true Amphiprion leucokranos.........

There is a huge variant..........in the morphological aspect of this species.......

Let´s see some pictures.............

First pic is from the two Parental species...........Amphiprion chrysopterus X Amphiprion sandaracinos............

picture.php

Fishes like these is expected from this cross...........

picture.php

The product of this cross..........also breed with their own Parental species..........

Like Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion chrysopterus..........

picture.php

picture.php

Also Amphiprion leucokranos cross with the other Parental species.......

Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion sandaracinos

picture.php

picture.php

The product of these crosses looks like these..........

picture.php

These interbreed..............too

Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion leucokranos

picture.php

Yes............the fish from Your Reef is a true Amphiprion leucokranos.........

One can pair this fish with Amphiprion sandaracinos..........or Amphiprion chrysopterus from Coral Sea........

PNG and Great Barrier..........

This variety of Amphiprion chrysopterus .........have White Tail..........and Black Pelvic and Anal fins...............

picture.php

Amphiprion leucokranos is a species evolved in Sahul Shelf..............East Australian and Northeast PNG realm............including New Britain.......New Irleand.......and Solomons...........

Never seen a single or a pair here in Thailand in nearly 10 years, and most fish get here at some point.

I'm pretty sure you can't tell what the parents were by looking at the resulting offspring. Have you ever seen the actual babies from a chrysopterus x sandarcinos cross?

The babies I saw from a leucokranos x leucokranos breeding ran the gamut from having 3 stripes to looking like the parents to looking like sandaracinos. When MarinP bred her leuc pair, she said that all the babies pretty much looked like their parents.

There is no way you can pick random pics off the internet and declare that this color variation is a result of a specific cross.

When you breed two organisms together that are so phenotypically different, you can't expect to get an even blending of traits in their offspring or their offspring's offspring. Genetics just doesn't work that way.

I was at your reef on Sunday and that fish was not in the tank, but the price was. Maybe it was hiding, but I looked for it for a while.

Sorry.........that´s my own oppinion...........about the subject.........

According my view...........on this species........there is another issue......

It´s about the fishes founded in Solomon Islands..........

They are duller in coloration than the fishes founded in Bismark Sea.........

Its an overview................not a rule............

Fishes from Solomons are seen in this video.........

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdoSWr5Lg04

ORA Farm also breed these fishes........note the dull coloration.........

And they came from Solomons........

Yes........we can expect many morphological variation in the offsprings........

Including what I think that is the two bar morph.........as you said Phil......

Here is an exemple of exactly what I think that is Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion leucokranos................two bar offsprig..........

These pics is from Cohab........Solomon Islands........

picture.php

I cannot prove.........but this fish looks Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion leucokranos offpring............that resemble Amphiprion chrysopterus........

This fish doesn´t look like a true Amphiprion chrysopterus...........however there are some true Amphiprion chrysopterus brown morph............but this is another issue...........

My oppinion is that this fish is Amphiprion leucokranos X Amphiprion leucokranos offpring............that resemble Amphiprion chrysopterus........

Here is another intresting picture in this context.............

Could be gone then. I was there about two weeks ago. That fish has been in that tank for a very long time. It definitely hangs around the BTA and behind the rock that the BTA resides on.

I tried to buy that fish a week ago and i was told it was not for sale and that it was a store pet.

Two weeks ago the add said for sale no pre order.
