I took 12 bags of the koloscape sand back to the hd in Palatine a couple weeks ago. Doubt they've sold it, but you're south so maybe too far.
If you do decide to go for ir, let me know and I'll swing by hd to make sure it's still there for you.
I have two 5 gallon buckets full of sand. it used to be livesand until last week, when temperature dropped so low my heater couldn't keep up in the garage. I can bring them to your house this Saturday to trade for algae & soft coral.
the home depot on 75th st in Darien has a whole pallet of the old castle stuff. from what i've been reading here, old caslte is what southdown is called now.
The Kolorscape sand is different than the old southdown, made by the same company(old castle). It doesn't pass the vinegar test but is being used by many.
The reason I didn't use it, I'm putting in a plenum a la Menard, and he said it would be too fine.
ok cool, and kimha, definitly, what are you looking to get for it? is full of dead stuff? does it stink? LMK, ill probably take it. thanks for the thoughts on the Koloscape stuff guys, ill try and get some.
bigbadbasile - thanks to you my refugium looks beautiful with plants and algae. So for you, these 2 buckets are FREE . It doesn't stink because it is so cold in my unheated garage. But any living things in there must be dead by now.
I just cleaned some of the sand for my big tank. It was quite easy. I have a square sink in my basement that I can put the entire 5g bucket inside it. Then I put a garden hose with running water in the bucket and slowly move it around to let the dirty debrise overflow the bucket. 10 minutes later, I have a very clean sand in the bucket.
thanks Chivan! I appreciate it. are you planning on stopping by the swap this sunday downtown? i can bring you some more algea or anything you want then if youd like. im interested in the canopy you have for the 180/210 as well. thanks!!
Anyone use old Pool filter sand, Just wondering instead of just dumping it...Is it too fine, I know has silicate..What's the Vinegar test? Sorry to bump in just wondering and thought it might help...Carl
