anyone seen this before?

I'm trying to figure out what these things are. Anyone care to take a stab and whether or not they're good, bad just ugly?

They're only found in my sump and don't seem to have any negative effects on my display.

Hard to say from the pic but they look like tunicates. Are they barrel shaped?

I have heard countless times that they are tunicates. They are filter feeders and harmless to a reef aquarium.

actually those are not tunicates at all they are Leucilla sponges, often called pineapple sponges or q-tip sponges. there is some info on them here at almost the bottom of the page jennifer
