Anyone up for another 135 Thread?

Well, the look in her eyes basically said to me, "I WANT YOU TO HAVE $30 FOR YOUR REEF" so I just HAD to do it. :D

You can NEVER listen to too much Slick. He's just godly.

My Dad is what I would call "mentally retarded." I told him that I have to stop at a local reefers house to give him money for some snails. This local reefer also has a tub of rock/coral he will sell to me for $50. Since I'm buying those pendants, I can't buy the corals, but I told my Dad this, in case he was feeling generous. He then proceeds to say "You have enough rocks and corals and tubs. No more buying things." I'm now refusing to take anything he says into any consideration.

wellllllll... looks like he said you can't buy "things". BUT... looks like you're in the clear to buy as much "stuff" as you see fit! muahahaha

So I'm hoping to see some more pics once you get the tanks in and all. Sounds exciting to setup I wish I was doing this. And I wish that I would find $30 in the street you lucky dog.

So he wont bring you to reef surges house. That sucks. You could say dad, come and see what a real extensive reef tank looks like and maybe he will want to look. And then when you get there let him show you his frags and such and maybe he could say no while you were there. Hes got a great setup and great stuff.Imho.Actually, these I bought from him.

No he won't bring me to Rich's house. I guess I could walk, it's only on the other side of town...I'm just lazy.

Also, that is a very nice Cap Karen...

Anyways, new developments today. Pictures to follow later on. I moved the table (with the lizard on it), as this is the new spot. Zeus (lizard) is in a 20L tank, and I have another tank the same size, that cannot hold water. SO, Zeus is being moved there, and we have just acquired one 20L. Now I have a few options. I don't have many places to put the 135g as a sump. One idea is to make that a display fuge; nothing really special added, just a fuge that is visible. Leave it in it's current spot, and just have the returns go to the nanos instead. Or, I can put a 100g Rubbermaid in my little work area, and move some of the stuff I have in there into the drawers I have on the nano stands. I'm leaning towards display fuge. That is the easiest, and cheapest, and most convenient. And it will look cool. What say you?

I like the display fuge idea the best. This way you can see Larry and how he is doing better from a side view rather than an over-the-top view. And you can look at the pods swimming around and other life in your fuge. If its easier to do the 135 sump then do that, your going to want to make this as simple as possible. There is less room for error if you make it easy and easy to understand.

I'm trying to figure this out. It will work, I just need to reinforce and level the desk in the basement. Then figure out all the plumbing. It will be somewhat complicated.

First, I have to convert all three 1.5" holes in the 135 to drains. They will drain into the sump. Then my return plumbing will go out the back of the stand, and then to the left to the nanos, and over the top into the 135g. They will drain into the 55g. That will only house the Mag18. The plumbing will go out the back, and have a ball valve on all three exits (135, 20L, 20L). The 135 will receive moderate flow, say 200gph (I can add a PH if necessary). I have around 1300 left then. 800gph to the SPS/clam 20L, 600gph to the clown/anemone 20L. The skimmer will be in the 135g on a PVC stand, separated from the rest of the fuge (eggcrate, yay!). Or should I put the skimmer in the sump? I'd think that would harm more pods than if it were in the fuge, as the fuge drains into the sump. Hmm..

Just the two 20Ls, and the 135g fuge. Sounds simplest. SPS/clam in one, clown/anemone/assorted things (anthelia, zoanthid, LPS or two).

So your going to have only 2 nanos with the 135 and 55g sumps. What happened to the 10g mandarin idea or is that out of the picture.

Just by reading that it sounded complicated. Hopefully I'll be able to understand more as time goes on and more pictures come up. Sounds like a good idea though.

Here comes the picture...next post. I have to put it on tinypic. It's really not that complicated once I drew it out. "Symbiosis tank" also has LPS/zoanthids/anthelia, but I didn't write that. I don't really have the space for the 10g, I looked downstairs. I don't know, if I end up wanting a mandarin badly, I can always add another somewhere. Anything's possible :D

Damnit, I knew I forgot something. Lights. The two 250w DE pendants will be suspended over the nanos, one light for each, and then I will either use the VHOs over the fuge, or sell that and get an LOA fixture.

Crap, I forgot the drains also. Those will come out of the bottom of the 20Ls and into the 55g sump under the 135.

That made it a little better but how are you going to get the water from the sumps to the nanos you don't have that in the pic. Looks nice though. And another Q what is that pole are the pipes going through that or is it a wall.

That is a pole that is holding up our basement. You know, those structural things. Look underneath the 135, into the stand, where the 55g is. You'll see the Mag18...that is split; one goes into the fuge, which drains down back to the 55g, the other two go to each 20L, and drain back to the 55g. I forgot to draw the drains.

Oh ok makes much more sense now. It looks alot easier now and not that difficult. I think that you will have a pretty easy time plumbing this one. And I have one of those poles too I just forgot that I had one and what it did.

Yup. All that's left to do is:

1. Buy two Pendants: ( )( )
2. Get two 20L tanks: (x)( )
3. Level both stands: ( )( )
4. Plumb ( )

Lots of work ahead of me. I am leaving for Pittsburgh for a week on Friday, and then have a week in Martha's Vineyard in August. I think this can definitely be done by the end of the summer, no doubt in my mind. It will be running probably around the second week of August.
