Can't agree with you here. I ran an unmodded G3 on a FO 180 for 2 years and had no problems filling the cup with goo weekly. It is rated for 225-250 as I recall. It would work fine. Having said that, there are equal or better G3-type skimmers that would be far cheaper (Octopus NW). And better skimmers if you are already willing to spend the money on a G3. Go to the Lighting, Filtration & Other Equipment Forum and ask the question with the money you are willing to spend. There will be a plethora of valid responses.Originally posted by SlowCobra
The G3 is a horrible choice for a 180. Its 6 inch body is far too small to effectively skim that tank. Not to mention they are way overpriced for their build quality. The manufacturer rating, as with most skimmers, is highly exaggerated.

Ive been running one unmodded on my 180 sps and it is OK but I plan on upgrading at some point.
i have the gate valve mod on my G3, would the recirc mod be worth doing?Originally posted by poppin_fresh
I keep telling you I'll help you mod that G3 into a much better skimmer.
A couple pieces of PVC and a little time and it will perform like a much more expensive skimmer.
