Anyone use Carl Zeiss Lenses?

I've shot with the ZF35/2 in F-mount. A great lens, very contrasty, nice color saturation, and very sharp. It has that BOLD high micro-contrast look that is typical of Zeiss. Manual focus is smooth and has amazing build. I love using MF primes and I would love to own one someday, but that's gonna have to wait as they're not cheap.

I've got a friend who has the 21 2.8. He uses it mainly for night photography because it's got a fixed infinity, unlike zooms.

Doug - don't all fixed lenses have the fixed infinity? Why did he go with the Zeiss? Has he ever compared it to say a Canon prime? Not that I have the cash but a contraty lens that is sharp wide open might be great for Aurora stuff.

i shoot alot of my photos using my zeiss 50mm f1.4 AEJ (the older lens) great lens, great color and contrast as well as colors.

Zeiss makes an excellent lens. I have their 18mm distagon, and the thing is an absolute work of art. The build quality is beyond compare, and the image quality is very much on par with the best Canon lenses. Of course, like all lenses of this caliber, the Canon will perform better in some areas, while the Zeiss is better in others. I'd recommend reading multiple professional reviews and making your decision from there. Here's where I usually like to start: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/

Was there a particular lens you were looking at?

I have owned the 21mm, it's amazingly sharp. But now so are the ts 17L & 24L. When shifted the 24 is close to a 21.

Here are a few images shot with the 21mm distagon. :)
