has anyone used reefbone? (the big white light rock stuff)

i have one piece and am thinking about buying more but im kinda weary of it.

i wanna know what its gonna look like in the long run.

so does anyone have any pics of their reefbone? hows it turn out?

please show me some pics of it

thanks

are you talking about tonga rock (looks like a tree branch)? if so i use a little with fiji and it makes aquascaping kinda cool.

no im not talking about tonga this is not a branch it is called reef bone and someone on here has shown the link a few times.

when its dry its white rock and can be many shapes it is light for its size and you can see imprints from stuff that was on it a LONG time ago.

surely someone knows what im taling about

evil monkey do you know or are you talking about tonga branch to?

It will cover in coralline as long as you buy live rock as well. I would do about 50% "reefbone" which I assume is essentially base rock and 50% live rock to "seed" it.

Sorry don't have any pics of mine, but I have a couple of pieces of reefbone that I mixed in with my liverock a few months back. Yes, eventually stuff started seeding it, and it can be considered "live" rock now. I have some coraline starting to grow in a few spots, and a few sponges decided to make it their home as well. It is still very white, but as more coraline takes hold I'm sure it will be pink, purple, and green in no time.

ok im resurrecting this thiing one last time to see if maybe i can get lucky and see a picture of some reefbone with corraline on it just to see how it turns out. or some reefbone thats been in an established tank for a while.

Geo here on RC used it for his entire tank. He used the extra large pieces came 3 to a box and were very different and interesting shapes. so far the coraline is starting to cover it and it looks like live rock to me :)

i looked at his gallery and i cant find a picture of the rock after it was established it just had the pictures when it was first put in the tank.

anyone have pics of established reefbone?

let me see if I can get him to post a picture up. It actually looks nice. I especially like the the shapes not your typical boulder type pieces.

This is a piece of reef bone that i bought, It was dry and sitting on a shelf. It has been in my tank for 10 months but only took 5 months to look like this.

I would caution about putting reefbones (basically dry baserock with a fancy name) in an established tank. I did that when I first started and it shot the ammonia through the roof. You need to cure it in a seperate container or you will have an ammonia spike. After being with your live rock a while it will be live rock also.

that looks great. i was hoping it would look good but ya never know untill ya see.

i would love to see more pictures if possible of any others just as a comparison type thing.

an ammonia spike? how? theres nothing to die off i thought there has to be something to die to make the ammonia spike when adding liverock. i read on here somewhere that adding dry dead rock to an established tank is like adding cured live rock. because there are no critters or anything to break down its just rock.
