Anyone use something other than the sponge in their Aquapod?

Hey guys....
Does anyone out there who owns a 24g Aquapod use anything other than the blue sponges it came with for mechanical filtration? I have often wondered about what to use (other than purchasing new ones) when they wear out. Would something like filter floss or poly pads work just as well?

I use the pillow stuffing from Walmart. I change it every few days, just throw it away.
