does anyone use tap water in their seahorse tank (for water changes, fill up)? it is planted. would this be an issue if i use some sort of chlorine remover? any pros? cons?
Thanks
Careful letting it sit for 24 hours. Many areas are using chloramine (chlorine bound to ammonia) now instead of chlorine because chloramine doesn't break down as easily. Letting your tap water sit for 24 hours, or even 2 weeks, won't get rid of chloramine. You'll need to use a chloramine remover like Amquel Plus to get rid of it.
Depending on where you live your tap water is also likely to contain metals as well as phosphates. IMO and IME it is really best in the long run to use RO water for seahorse tanks. RODI if your into the corals.
Many times when people are experiencing nuissance alagae outbreaks switching from Tap to RO seems to make the difference. It did for me way back when. I've been with the RO ever since.
