Anyone using clams for filters?

I've heard of people using clam filters. I was thinking of doing this on my next big tank, as I would like to have a clam only tank too. If anyone is doing this, please tell your opinions, tank size, livestock in tank, number of clams, etc..

Im in the process of doing that at the moment...I have purchased a 57 gallon clam tank that is 34 X 30 X 13 tall....slanted glass work to see the true colors! I also bought 250 DE PFO pendant and HQI ballast...hadent decided what bulb to run yet but it will either be a 14.5 k up to a 20 k, I want the aquaconect 14k but there sold out and have to be on a waiting list to get one.

Im waiting on the tank, will have it next weekend, then ill build a stand, and purchase a sump pump..the plumbing stuff....some sugar sized sand...might run a 3 inch sand bed...ill have it plumbed into my existing sps/clam reef...have the sump pump in the reefs sump...moving water over to the clam tank...would like the clams tank water to flow into the main reef display if possible if not ill have it draining back into the sump....ill move some love rock over from the existing reef the rock that some of the clams are atached to...and might buy some dry rock to aquascape it some and might purchase about 5 to 10 lbs of cured rock for that purpose also....

Hopefully withing a week to two weeks from now ill actually have all my tanks equipment and start puting the pieces together......

so far I have 4 croceas sp and 2 maximas, with the new tank ill add some more maxes...in wha ever colors my wife likes best ...it will be a few weeks before its set up...still have to build a stand and canopy...and purchase a few items, like a pump and halide bulb..

Scuba, please let me know if you are going to be doing a setup diary. I can't wait to see more pictures of that tank. I love its low/slanted design. I can't wait to see more pics of it, especially when it is setup!

Sure will Ill take some pics...ill be picking the tank up at my friends home next weekend...then ill start on a stand ...the project will take me a few weeks...so far i have ordered a pfo 250 DE pendant and a PFO HQI ballast...thats all the equipment I have thus far...shouldent be too bad...need to make my mind up on a return pump.. the plumbing...some salt, sand, and to make my mind up on what bulb to use, Im on a waiting list for the 14.5 k aqua conect but im not holding my breath on that one...

Hey Reefers,

Not sure how much help I will be here, but my second piece of LR in my 10 gallon nano reef came with a very unexpected hitch hiker. You guessed it, a clam! It is incredibly well disguised, you would never know it was there unless it's open. The shell is that well hidden. It's not much for looks, but I imagine it does a good job of filtering my water, my tests are good. Amonia was a little high last time, but I trashed hte bio-wheel that was in my filter, which I learned was litterally dumping amonia causing bacteria into my reef! Great for freshwater! Not for my reef! Anyhow, things are great now, and I even feed my tank a little DT's live phytoplankton. This smorgusboard made the clam extend it's feeding tube longer than I've ever seen before, because up until the DT's I dosed for hte first time 2 days ago, it hadn't extended it much. Now it's like "Reach for the DT's! MORE!!!" My numerous mini feather dusters on the LR are waving wildly too when I add DT's, and I imagine other live in the LR is loving and craving it. The clam is about 2.5" right now, not sure how big it will get, but it makes my tank interesting, ugly duckling though it may be.
