Anyone using GFO?

I been running GFO and it seems to be effective but I'm just going by sight because I don't currently have a quality Phosphate test kit. I read it exhausts pretty quick and without a kit I cannot tell for sure but I'm starting to believe that is the case. Even buying decent sized quantities online for cheap, the stuff is still expensive. So I was wondering, anyone else using GFO? How often do you replace it?

I used GFO before all the fancy high quality test kits were available. Salifert or something similar should be fine.

How quickly it exhausts depends on how much PO4 is in your system.
When I first started using it I was going though 250ml every 4-7 days....talk about expensive :rolleye1:
Once the PO4 came down 250ml lasted around 3 months or so.

To see if it's still working test the output of your reactor. When it's effective you should see 0 PO4 when testing once you get a measurable reading it's time to replace. If someone doesn't have a reactor measure tank water. Again any rise in PO4 means the media is exhausted.
