anyone using starboard?

Just curious how many people are donig BB tanks and if your using starboard. if you are where do you get it from? seriously considering new tank going BB...any suggestions and help would be appreciated. thanks

Nope, Starboard is like cutting board used in lieu of a sandbed. I am using it in my 30g, and it's pretty, although I bought it along with the tank, used. I remember a discussion on another board about where to order it, but I don't remember offhand.

yea, would much rather buy the starboard precut so i can just drop it into tank and be ready to go. jason, you doing barebottom on the 180? i just can't take the sand not staying put and having to keep all my koralias towards top of tank to prevent a sandstorm.

I've seen a bunch of tanks with starboard. WWC has all of their tanks BB w/ starboard. The only thing that kinda sucks is that the stuff floats making it a real pain to put it in if there is already water in the tank. Once it's in and there are a few rocks on it, it looks real good. No sand blowing around....super easy cleaning......of course, you'll lose the effects of your sandbed.

I ordered mine from Deepbluemarine.com. Fast service.

I cut mine on a table saw, no problems (Also used a saber saw to make the cut out for the overflow). Just ensure you size it so it doesn't rest on the silicone seams at the bottom of the tank. Needs to lay flat so crud doesn't accumulate under it.

does anyone glue theres down? is there anything you can do about the gap that will be between the glass and starboard? might look weird having a groove go all around the tank...just a thought

If you get the 1/4 thick size and cut it just right so it fits snugly in the bottom, but yet doesn't overlap the tank seams (so it lies flat) it really isn't that noticeable. The standard tank trim on the bottom of most tanks hides the gap for the most part.

i have bb in my 172 and love it i thought i was not going to like it but it is the best you can have a lot of flow and not worry about sand it is the best never do sand again and you cant see the gap around the edges do it !!!!!!!!!!!!
