I did recipe #1 for cal and alk and it has been raising my PH slowly and i am getting concerned, yesterday it hit 8.62. I need recipe #2 to lower the PH so I need to get rid of what i have to reuse the containers.

Anyone want it for free?

need it gone ASAP i have 1/2 gallon of each.

Ken?.....anyone? i want it gone this weekend or it will go down the drain.

Shane I would be interested. I have been looking into making my own since I upgraded to my 75 gallon. Bionic is just not economical anymore.

Look on bulk reef supply they have all the info and the starter kit ready to go. I made the mistake of using the first recipe and not the 2nd.

I'm surprised that Ken is using the #1 recipe. But I do run Ozone and a huge skimmer i think keeps the PH up.

Thnx for the info guys. I think I will give it a try once I run out of bionic. How much does the calcium chloride run at Leslies pool supply and will they know what I'm talking about when I ask for calcium chloride?

On the calcium chloride from Leslie Pool Supplies, do you follow the same ratios as if you were using Dowflake from Randy's article below?

From the article below:
Recipe 1 Part 1 Calcium
"Dissolve 500 grams (about 2 ½ cups) of calcium chloride dihydrate (such as Dowflake 77-80% calcium chloride or ESV calcium chloride; see below for substitutes and sources) in enough water to make 1 gallon of total volume."
Recipe 2 Part 1 Calcium
"Dissolve 250 grams (about 1 ¼ cups) of calcium chloride dihydrate (such as Dowflake 77-80% calcium chloride or ESV calcium chloride; see below for substitutes and sources) in enough water to make 1 gallon of total volume"

Thanks for the help.

No I used about 20% less because it is pelletized. From that same article:

If you use an anhydrous or monohydrate calcium chloride (such as Dow Mini-Pellets, Kent's Turbo Calcium, Prestone Driveway Heat or Peladow Calcium Chloride), then you should use about 20% (1/5) less solid calcium chloride by volume to make the recipe. Note that the solution will get quite hot when dissolving anhydrous calcium chloride. See the section on substitutions for further information.

So far calcium levels are staying where they should be so i think this is the correct way to use it.

Shane, after our conversation, I hauled out my Salifert pH test kit (not expired) and tested my pH for the first time in a while, as it has always been amazingly stable and as such I haven't been concerned about it. The test result: 8.3

:)

hummm i wonder why mine has been high, i have never had a problem with PH. Maybe i should do an actual test and not rely on the probe. I'll do it tonight. I still have hte cal and Alk I'll give it to you at the next meeting.
