Anyone went to MACNA?

Awesome, I learned several things, and got to meet some of my favorite authors and fish people. I think it wouldv'e been right up your alley reggie, l.e.d.'s everywhere. Looks like that the direction the hobby is taking for sure. I went on the behind the scenes tour at sea world and got to see their new reef tank, and that was awesome, great looking reef for sure. I didn't win anything in the raffle, but my girlfriend did, Lol 100$ jewelery gift certificate, which ended up costing me an additional 30$ haha. The worst part about it was realizing the importance of a local club, and it made me sad. I told the MASNA president about my situation not really having a club, and told him about the other club, and he told me that any club which is affiliated with a particular store is not a club (no offense meant here) and I realized a local club was in dire need here in WV.

I think it would be awesome to get to go to MACNA. I hope I will be able to go in the future. When was the event held? I think it is usually in Sept so that is the main reason I can't go.

Sep.t 3-5. Take a vacation, next year it is in Des Moines. Phil, ae you all still having those chats on Wed.? I always miss them becasue at 9:30 I'm usually on my way to work. Last time I talked on there it was really pleasant. How many members is CVRC up 2?

Sept is a bad month for me I am always busy that time of year. I used to send out the CVRC chat reminders every week but have not had time to keep up with it lately. This is why people have not been receiving them. I will try to do better on announcing chat nights. I think the CVRC has 200 or so registered members.

Cool, do you all have monthly meetings or anything? I got an e-mail about a halloween frag swap, but unfortunately I don't have any coral (yet). What about speakers, do you all ever bring in any speakers?

We usually meet four times a year. We have not had any national speakers yet as they usually need payment or at the least travel expenses paid to make an appearance. The club does not collect dues or any money from members. The only way money is raised in the club is through member donations and from LFS that sponsor the group. Atm, there are seven sponsors but not all give money as donations. LFS are the only sponsors that donate money to the club. The club has approached other stores in the area to see if they would be interested in sponsoring it but so far we have only gotten three. So, with such a small number of sponsors and a small member base, I guess if someone wanted to have a speaker come they could have members/sponsors donate money for it or find other ways to raise some money for it.

Man, that sucks, that's one of the main reasons I would like to be in a club is for the speakers to come. I'm looking at a move here within the next year out of state, so hopefully I can find a club with what I am looking for.

I am sure that speakers could come but there would have to be some way to compensate them. I would be happy to contribute, depending on which speaker would be chosen. Myself I would like to talk to Eric Borneman or Randy Holmes-Farley. I have spoken with Steve Tyree a couple times but he would also be good to bring into the area. Maybe George from GEO's Reef could come he is in Ohio.

One of my favorite talks at MACNA and a person who has some great tanks IMO is Copps (John Coppolino, and he lives in northern virginia.
