Anyone work at DOE/ORNL?

Got tubes?
Hi all!

I've got a job interview tomorrow to work at ORNL. :)

Any of you guys working there?

My grandfather used to work at Y-12, so its kinda neat. :)

Brandon

Yes, I work here at the SNS. Where're you interviewing (which department/division)?

Dave

As odd as this sounds, I'm not sure. :D I will be working doing helpdesk support if I get the job. That's about all I know at this point. :)

Brandon

Oh, another IT person to deal with ;) Be sure and ask them about least user privileges, the bane of my existance. Good luck with the interview, there used to be another reefer out here who worked at ORNL IT but I haven't seen him around for awhile!

Dave

 I have actually already heard of user privileges and the struggle thereof. ;)

Thanks! And I promise I will play as nicely as possible if you'll promise to sneak a coral under my door every once in a while. :D

Brandon

I also have a spouse at ORNL/SNS, but don't you dare offer to be a reasonable IT person to her in exchange for frags - my tank would be bare in a week! I get to hear about L.U.P. at least a couple evenings a week.... and not exactly in glowing terms.

It's the primary reason they're hiring. I spoke to one helpline rep and he had more than 500 tickets open to service. I also had a new employee which took almost a month to get a simple software package installed. Somebody should hack into their computers and then we'd really be in trouble!

Wow... that sounds pretty rough! I'm not sure exactly where I'll be if I get the job, but maybe I'll be able to come in contact with some of you every once in a while. :D Not to mention I'll have to join ETRC. ;)

I do know that I'm interviewing for a position that became open when someone was... uh... let go. ;)

Brandon

Well, the interview went fairly well I think.

They called me back about an hour and a half after and asked me to come back next week, so that's usually a pretty good sign. ;) Not sure just yet which day I'll be going back, but we'll see!

Brandon

Sorry I just now saw this thread.

I work at ORNL, hold on -- well maybe -- I am employeed there. You may see me if you get the job. Lots of people are sent to me if they work around RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL.

Even though I do not believe in luck -- Good luck.

Eddie

Haha... thanks Eddie. :)

I will be coming back sometime this coming week for the second part of the interview. We'll see how it goes! I'm so tired of being a broke college student... the thought of transferring and doing my Master's at UT sounds pretty good. :)

If thats not the truth, then I don't know what is... :) Good luck with the second interview... We look forward to having you out on this end of the state... ;)

hey are they still making you guys pour out your milk, walk 3 miles to the building, and screening your lunch boxes over there?...not my kinda workplace. Sorry to be a downer!

Why would you have to pour out milk??? I love milk... I have a chocolate milk craving that is about to be satisfied!!! :D

Haha!

I went into the actual lab today. It was really neat.

Dave, is SNS "Spallation Neutron Source" for where you are? Passed by it on my way to the help desk. :)

And I'm betting you have a token and are not fond of the LUPs. :D

Yes, yes, and yes, but we learn some battles aren't worth fighting (or cost more to fight than we have time for). See my sig line...
