anyones slimer ever turn lavender

I tried this on sps forum but didnt get much i wanted to know what you guys think of this. My slimer was bright green before i went on vacation. I left my little brother in charge of the tank and when i got back this is what it turned into. The coral is not bleaching because its been almost a month since ive been back and no change. Also everything else in the tank has retained color. Theres a little die off in the bottom left of the coral but thats been like that for about six months and it hasnt spread.

what kind of lighting do you have on yoru tank and how high is this coral in your tank?

What you're seeing is LBS.
(Little Brother Syndrome)

Looking at the polyp/ coralite shape, it doesn't look like the standard green slimer.
How long was it in your tank before it changed from green?

My lighting set up is a 250 watt xm 10k, its at the bottom of the tank. Its been in my tank for about a year and has been bright green. Im pretty sure its a slimer i mean any time i touch it the coral starts sliming like crazy. Also i got it from a reefer thats been doing this for a while. Joe what do you think it is.

this happens with alot of corals. they change color in different peoples tanks. placement also makes a big difference in the colors a coral will change. i have had corals change color from one side of my tank to the other and placing it highier or lower in the tank.. remeber everyones water quality is different.


for example i have this zoo that is turquoise in my tank and turns green in other peolpes tanks.

hope this helps. i happen to run my tank with low alk and high calcium. so corals get colors that others don't always get. i also have alot of light over a 90 gallon.

remeber the numbers they tell us to keep our reef tanks at are an avareage of all the reefs from around the world. i think i read some where that all reefs have different alk and calcium, etc.

Yup, lighting and nutrients change coral colors big time, especially tank to tank but yeah you'll see big changes in color even within the same tank depending on the light levels.
