Armor of god palys for Purple People Eater! I have a four polyp frag, and im looking to get a two polyp frag of PPE. I will also consider rare corals for Armer of Gods. Im near south san jose (95014), though I dont mind shipping.

Heres a rather bad picture of them:

Please post a pic of what youve got. Thanks!

I ended up getting AoGs from two separate sources, just 1 day apart. They looked diferent intially, but after a couple of weeks they started to look the same. Just as with any other coral, lighting and tank parameters play a large role in their coloration.

What makes this so rare?

What makes any named zoa rare ? or any named coral for that matter ?

AoGs are known for their mettalic orange centers that appear to glow, more or less IIRC

Hehe... they are rare because they are! There just aren't that many out there.

They showed up about 3 years ago. There have been similar metallic orange ones since, but not quite so intense.

Most of the ones being traded on RC as AoG are really not AoG. And people keep passing those amongst themselves so everybody thinks those are the original ones.

Here's some in the top center of the pic.

Wow, quite a topic centered around this frag! Sorry about the pic, im getting a better one right now. Mr. Ugly, you have a very impressive collection.

Those are the Ugly Zoas, haha :)

Normally those are just on the bottom of the tank, but Whodah and TacoCat came over a while back to take some pics, so I put a few up on a temporary eggcrate rack.

Unfortunately, we all know what temporary means.... I have yet to get that ugly rack out of the tank!

I have them under a 70 watt astrolux mh in the light. DANG IT my hermit just walked all over the frag when I was taking a picture...

My AoG came from a member here in reef central. Unfortunantly, I dont know his screen name becasue I found him with craigslist. I do know that he lives here in cupertino though

70 watt on a nano?

To color up AoG more, you can keep it directly in the light. Even at the bottom of my 72 under 250w mh works. The orange can get patchy if it's shaded.

Also, AoG can get bruised/blotched and lose their color when fragged. Comes back in time though.

hey man, thanks alot. Its in a 2.5 at the moment, 4" from light. It does look a little blotched, maybe due to fragging.

When I was talking to the guy who sold me the frag, he said that there are two kinds of AoGs, fake orange ones and red ones. These are the red ones.

I just got another picture, I will post it in a few minutes

Mind you, I have a horrible camera.

Here are a couple pics:

I know these are still bad pictures, but there a little better than the original one. I had a frag next to the glass that I could get a decent picture of, but then a hermit walked all over it.

He's mistaken. Though FraggleReef used to call theirs Platinum Red paly, then later Platinum Red PPE, then AoG, then later yet True AoG.

I have to say I'm so sorry I named that zoa, after seeing what goes on in the trading and sales forums etc nowadays!

So, whats the consensus on them? Neither of those pictures represent their color, though they are closer to the first pic. They have a metallic red glow, similar to yours.

I will see if I can get a better pic tommorow
