Apex Classic $340 fire sale at Dr. F&S

Thought I'd post it here in noob section in case anyone has been waiting to get a controller. The Apex Classic, what used to be called Apex Full package (8 outlet and temp and ph probe) is on sale at Dr. Foster and Smith for $340 with free shipping.

Pretty decent savings from $520 normal price.
 
The sale is still going on, but Neptune also announced a few months ago the next gen version of the Apex System.
The new version is available now, which explains why the older version is on clearance.

The new one seems to offer power use monitoring as well as wifi and one touch updates, versus the hard wire requirements to update.

I am torn, whether I want the new one or the old one =/
I think the power monitoring is gonna "inspire" me to go with the new version.
 
What are the WIFI and one touch updates? I know nothing about the apex and how it connects to the internet. Do I have to have my router near it? Mine is upstairs...

PLEASE HELP!!!

There are several ways around not having wifi. You can use a wall plug that turns outlet into Ethernet or a dongle that turns Ethernet jack into wifi.

I see that too. I've been back and forth seeing and hoping they fix it. Definitely will buy one if they clear it again.

Not sure. I called them up today and they put in an "e ticket" for me and I was "assured" I could buy it at the clearance rate. Customer service just has to look into it and call me back in 1-2 BD

How did you make out? Did you ever get your order for the Apex accepted by DFS? I tried ordering one as well and have spoke twice now to Customer Service but are getting the run around.

Yes, update - unfortunately I did get the run around and then received an email stating that the price was the regular price and they could not sell it for the clearance price. A bunch of BS if you ask me but it is what it is. I will keep on putting some pennies away to get one. We are doing quite well without it so I am in absolutely no rush to get one although I would certainly like to have one.

This is the second time I've had a less then stellar experience with them. I think its time to part ways with them. Besides, because of their issues with the IRS, they now charge sales tax on online/mail orders as a result of their settlement with the IRS. I can avoid that expense with other etailers.
