APEX Controller Questions

I was thinking about upgrading my Elos Biotopus II controller to something different. Especially something where I can monitor my tank from afar. The controller that I had my eyes set upon was the APEX unit. I was just wondering what people thought about this unit. Did anyone upgrade from an older unit? If so what unit? Anyone upgrade from an Elos Biotopus unit?

For the APEX, does it have 'service modes' where you can push a button or combo that shuts off all main pumps (skimmer, return etc)?

Feed mode?

I guess I'm just wondering if you can basically program almost anything into it.

How long has the unit been out? I'd hate to buy into it too only to later find out its already being replaced.

Thanks for your thoughts, opinions, and experiences in advance.

Mike,

I can not speak for all controllers. I have been very happy with my Apex there are programing wizzards that will accomplish 90% of what the average user will want. Then if you want there is the advance mode. Mine controls return pumps, Tunze PH's, Ai, lights, DIY led accent lights, T5 accent lighting, Skimmer, ATO Heater, Chiller, and Co2 reactor. I monitor 2 different PH levels, Two different temps, and salnility. Since I go out of town quite a bit it nice to monitor and change something if needed from either my smartphone or any internet connection. One of the most great things I have email and text alerts setup so say if my temp goes below a certin point I get a text and email letting me know what the problem is. I have not tried it yet, but the Apex will allow you to hook up a web cam so you can watch your tank online or smartphone.

Neptune Systems line has been around for many years. I can personaly vouch for there support. Its been great.

All in all especially for the cost the Apex can do some amazing things...

I have bought the Apex Lite a few months ago and can't believe I lived without it. For my purposes it does everything I could think to hook up to it. If you are considering it, you can download the users guide on their website and read through it.

Service modes are called Feed Cycles with the Apex.

Yes you can program it do just about anything. And they are constantly adding to it. Lucky for me, they happen to located about 5 min away from my house and have provided great customer support over the years.

I love my Apex controller. It seems to do everything, and the great thing is that you can update it when they release updates. It can run anything that can be plugged into the EB8 and anything that can be hooked up to the WXM including the AI sols, vortechs, and radions. It also has an optional break out box so you can use it as an ATO. I highly recommend you read the user guide to get an idea of just how awesome this thing is. It's kind of pricey, but worth every penny if you ask me.
