Apex DOS for water changes

Anyone using the DOS for auto water changes? On sale at BRS today and I'm thinking about setting it up on an old Apex Lite if it will work. Any issues you have come across?

I run one on my tank and like it quite a bit. I have it change 2 gallons a day on a Reefer 750XXL. I set it up to run from midnight to 6 am because when the DOS runs for AWC it is pretty loud.

Interesting that it is loud. The website touts how quiet it is. I use a Tunze ATO do you know if it will work with that? Does it remove and add at the same time so it doesn't affect the ATO? I guess I could program it to turn off the ATO while water changing but hate to mess with something that just works

I think if you use the DOS to dose small amounts it is pretty quiet. It's pretty quiet when you calibrate it because the heads spin more slowly. When it runs for AWC the heads spin fast and it gets noisy.

I also have a Tunze on my tank for ATO. Both heads on the DOS run at the same time so I leave my ATO on and I haven't noticed any impact on my salinity. For a bit the head that pulled water out I believe got out of calibration and wasn't pulling out enough so my salinity was creeping up. I ran the calibration again and that seemed to fix it. So I will keep my eye on my salinity to see if I need to recalibrate but overall I have been very happy with it. To do 2 gallons over 6 hours like I have selected it seems to kick in and run about every 15 minutes and run for a few minutes and for the most part that all happens while we're sleeping so the noise isn't an issue.

i ended up getting a stand alone doser as i dont have a Apex, BUT one of the main reasons why i didnt go with the dose was the reviews..... loud!

Not that it matters much but even with it being loud during AWC if I was going to start dosing (currently don't dose anything automatically) I'd probably buy a DOS but I do have an Apex and it's nowhere near as loud when the heads are running at low speed as it is when it's doing water changes. And it can pump quite a ways. I put the DOS I use for AWC probably 15 feet behind my tank by my mixing containers and pump the waste across that room to a floor drain.

I think I'll try it. Probably going to go ahead and order a new Apex as well with the salinity monitoring built in. I have the older Apex Lite now. I picked up dosing pumps Wednesday but now I may just get 2 DOS pumps and use that for the 2-part instead. With the 3 Radions I bought Wednesday this is turning into an expensive week for the fish tank.

I use a DOS as a water change unit. No issues other than the pumps are a tad bit loud when running. Not a big deal, just a heads up
