Apex JR feels hot

Hello. I've got a new Apex JR that seems to be hot (the energy bar). Ranges from 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit on the box but is real hot in bottom left where cord enters, measured 120 degrees Fahrenheit with IR gun. Not overloaded only has a 400 watt heater plugged in.

Is this normal?

Although I don't own an Apex Jr., this is not the first time I've heard of these units running hot. Perhaps you could get more clarity on this issue by posting your question on the Neptune Systems sponsor forum...

My Apex Jr runs hot as well and I haven't had any problems

Thanks guys. I'll post in the Neptune forum. Just worries this thing will start a fire or burn up if it's defective (I know it has to get much hotter).

Is it in a closed stand/cabinet? It may not have sufficient ventilation...

It's mounted to the wall behind the tank so getting plenty of ventilation

I talked with the LFS and he said he gets the question all the time. Said same thing that Neptune did.

Neptune said it would get hot. I ended up returning it and getting the 2016 Apex, LFS was cool and made a deal with me that if I didn't like the jr they would let me bring it back within a year. I decided I wanted more out of the controller and took him up on the offer
