Apex vs Reefkeeper

I am new to this hobby and have a 34g Solana. I was wondering which controller is the best. One with the least problems, best bang for the buck...etc...etc...

Never asks what's the best, you will only incite a brand riot. However, I do have an Apex and I believe that I made the right choice once I saw how many accessory items they have modules for like LEDs, propeller pumps and returns from top vendors.

I have had both, the Apex is a better value and offers more features. Neptune also provides far better service, you get immediate replies rather than needing multiple emails or calls just to get the ball rolling with digital aquatics.

Yep, Apex good, RK bad... if you have too much cash then Profilux claims the extra 1% of betterness for 3x the price. For details search the forums, this has been beaten with a club over and over.

how easy it is to program the apex for someone who does not have programming experience? As an engineer I write controls and data acquistion software for test systems at my job, but my wife is a nurse and knows squat about programming and I would like her top be able to play with it (the apex I mean). Is it fairly intuitive? What kind of user interface? Is it point and click with drop-down boxes for channel selection, or is it writing code with for loops, while loops, if, and else, etc.....?

It's both depending on the item your controlling, and what you want to do. A heater for instance is a drop down, and you input the temp on and temp off. Most things you can do this way. If you want to go advanced, in the drop down you select advanced and then you can input the IF..... Then..... code.. For instance: If you select "light" on the drop down you can have a light come on at a certain time, and off at a certain time, if you select "advanced" the drop down (and if the lights are capable) you can creat profiles for intensities and ramp up and ramp down times and input that into the code.

Don't want to go against the grain here, but I love my RKL. I use it on my 210g to monitor temp, pH, and salinity, as well as power my fugue light, return pump, skimmer, ATO, and automatic feeder. I also love the iPhone app which allows me to monitor my system when I travel out of town. With another PC4 I will control my lighting and MP40s.

It's VERY simple to program and I have had NO problems at all. Just my $.02

I have a Reef Keeper Elite and I would go with an Apex if I were starting over. I've never used an Apex but it seems to me like the networking and data logging work much better.
