Apex WAV Starter Kit

For those that are using the Apex WAV Starter Kit, how satisfied are you with it? I was thinking about buying these but I'm not seeing the greatest reviews on them. Mostly early failure of the power heads and noise levels. Thanks!

I have them. I've had no issues so far. I have had them since early December. They are not loud and very easy to set up.

Thanks for the responses and it's good to hear they are positive. I have an Apex which is why I was looking at these. I have Tunze power heads but since I had the Apex I was looking into these.

I wouldn't give my Tunze up for those apex pumps. I have 2 6105s on my 180 and they are DEAD DEAD silent, they move a TON of water too. If yours are anything like mine youre crazy to change them.

I have had mine for over a year now and have had no issues. They are hard to disassemble for cleaning however which is the only real issue I have had.

I'm not giving up my 6095s. I'm setting up a 150g tank that is 60x24x24 and I was thinking on using the WAV pumps on the back wall and use the 6095s on the side walls. I love the 6095s and you are so right about being quiet... never hear them at all.

I've been running them for over a year now, very quiet, no problems at all. They move a lot more water than my old MP-40s and infinitely quieter. My only complaint is that the angle of adjustment is not that great.

Not picking on you, I just think it is funny. The angle of adjustment is much more than the MP-40, no?

Seriously, I just got finished cleaning my 2 WAVs today. Love them. I have them peak at 85% in my 120 Gal.

Wow... I have 2 wav's on opposite ends of my 150 and if I put them any higher than 8% it creates too much flow for anything that needs low flow.

Am I just being too much of a conservative and need to pickup the flow?

I am all SPS up top and Some LPS low in the tank. My WAVs are high up. My torches get whipped around a good deal, but seem to love it. I have the Special Grade Reef sand and that seems to say put pretty well up to 100%, except in the corners I get bare spots so I only take it up to 85%.

I don't have the WAVs hitting anything directly, and I have them on Malibu and Mavericks depending on time of day/cycle.

Ultimately, if your corals are happy then 8% is exactly where it should be. If not, then play with position, angle and mode.

That is funny! With the MP-40s the in tank footprint was so small that I hardly noticed them, so it didn't matter where I placed it in the tank as far as ascetics go. With the WAVs they are much more noticeable, so I try to hide them between corals. I could do a better job of hiding them if they had a greater angle of adjustment.

I just replaced my mp40wqd with the wav kit, have to say been using mp10 and 40 for 4 years and never had issues with them great pump. I switch for the simple reason that a power supply can run 2 wave makers and the doser. Have to say the wav aesthetically is not the best looking one out there but the flow is pretty amazing have to say... when I set up my tank was using only 2 mp40 first , then had to add an extra one cause was getting a dead spot. That's the only issue I had with the ecotech pumps , great flow but the pump couldn't be point at any direction. Now with the WAV at least can direct the flow a bit, not the greatest of the adjustment but still something.
Is still too early for me to say if this pumps are good or not but I'll like to hear some suggestion for placement and flow for my tank, sps dominated.
Back pane is black so be easy to camouflage the pumps, tank is only 105 g 40x26x22..

I had both WAV pumps die on me after one year - just out of warranty. I've replaced them with Jebao WP 60s which actually allow better programming with the APEX than the WAV.
Also I found the WAVs to be real dottyback killers. This is due to the fact that dottybacks like to explore their inside and have a high likelihood of getting chopped to pieces when the WAVs come back on. With Jebaos (or any other pump that can be controlled via the 0..10V outputs) the APEX allows you to program short pulses so that the impeller jerks every few seconds and keep nosy fish out. The WAV programming modes don't allow that.

I was having a same problem with mp40, when off , snails use to get in to it, luckily have no too small fishes in my tank , hopefully the wav will last longer than a year, or is going to be definitely an issue... I never had problem with the ecotech brand, wanted just to clear up some wires...
