Apolemichthys Diet

Blue Ring Sting

Hi All

I just wanted to know what the best food is for the Apolemichthys family? I have been reading up on different foods and I have so far purchased the following:

Ocean Nutrition Formula 1 Pellets
Ocean Nutrition Formula 1 Flakes
Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula Frozen Food ( Got sponge in )
Ocean Nutrition Frozen Mysis Shrimp
Nori

I was thinking about getting 1 or 2 sponges as well to keep them with him to try and entice him to nip or eat them?

I will also be using Seachem Entice to try to get them to eat. Does anyone have any recommendations to what else I can try and use to get my angelfish to eat. I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I receive it.

It should be here in 2 days time so I wanna make the correct food available when he is in my tank.

Thank you.

I have kept several Gold Flake angels, and they have all acclimated to tank life quickly and easily.

Live brine and black worms are one of the fastest ways to get them eating in the tank.

I just want to make sure that I will be able to get this one to feed. There is no much information about it on the web.

I would need to make my own brine as we dont have anyone who sells it here by us. I dont think we have black worms either. I would need to do some research.

I'd highly recommend getting fresh clam, oyster, scallop, and table shrimp. You can leave the oyster and clam in the shell and freeze, then crack them open when you will feed. This allows to fish to graze on the clam/oyster. With the scallop and table shrimp, I'd either chop into bite-size pieces or freeze then grate into small pieces.

Can I get the fresh clam, oyster, scallop or table shrimp from the super market and use it? Or would I need to take it out of the ocean? Is it safe as I heard that there are parasites on clams, oysters and scallops? So if freeze it to kill the parasite and then it should be ok to use?

I live in Minnesota, I source mine at a grocery store/super market. You can also look into Asian Markets if you have any around you. Just make sure that they aren't cooked or loaded with preservatives. I haven't had a problem to date with fish getting ill from feeding these foods, the freezing should take care of parasites.

Fantastic! I will get fresh ones from the seafood section at the super market. They usually have them alive as well as frozen. So just freeze them then crack them open and then he may eat? I will be able to get black mussel.

small gf will eat anything...I feed mine, pe Mysis, spirulina brine, minced clams, shrimp...I do not feed any fish dry foods except nori...

in a pinch I was. trying to feed 2 yasha gobies. Got them thru online retailer both were skinny and not eating frozen pemysis nor cyclopleze. Have them in QT doing the tank transfer method. They not happy so ordered live brine from Live Aquaria. They delivered today and I dosed the live brine with phyto feast. Added some in and they started to eat. Hopefully they will continue. If these other methods dont work for you , this might be a way. Just make sure you order before the week passes by.

your yasha might be too small to eat pe Mysis....try mincing it...or maybe try their pink version which is the baby Mysis, I think it's out...

I've had them (Apolemichthys sp.) take to P.E. Mysis, Spectrum Pellets, Nori, Rod's Food and Rogger's Food. None of my three fish from this genus over the years really went after O.N. Angel Formula. Never had to offer any clams as they took to the prepped foods right off the bat.
