What: Renowned author and presenter Anthony Calfo, in a new presentation, will give a very eye opening program focusing on the saltwater hobby as a whole. Its history, current possible and pending legislation from around the world that may/will impact the hobby we care for so much, and what we can do as hobbyists and aquaculturists to ensure we have a hobby in the future for ourselves and future saltwater hobbyists.

This is a spring presentation that will stay with you long after its conclusion! Another 'Dont Miss' meeting brought to you by CORA. Central Ohio Reef Aquarists.

Why is this just being announced now?!?!?! I'm sure this has been in the mix for a while. It seems wise to promote something so big well in advanced.

Jason

We have always announced our next monthly meeting following the current month's meeting date, as far as I am aware. It was informally announced at the February meeting as well. This is almost a full month away. Plenty of time to promote it to the group. Hope to see you there.

Member participation time everyone.

Anthony Calfo has graciously agreed to add another subject to the April meeting presentation, a coral rescue workshop. He will supply the tools, and will give a workshop on coral salvaging (checking your local lfs regarding receding/damaged corals. Offering to rescue it for a reduced price, etc. and take it home). Within this presentation, he will show fragging techniques for various corals.

Here's where we are looking for member participation. He wants about 12 various damaged corals to frag. So if anyone has that chalice that ended up getting an acan echinata fall on it and killing a section, or that branching hammer that got the dreaded brown jelly disease and took out a few heads, etc. Anything that is damaged and you would like to frag and save the good part, PM an officer by Friday 04/09/10. The more different corals we get, the better.

Maybe even get a headstart on the workshop and hit up your lfs locally and get a damaged coral at a discounted price, and bring it to the meeting. C'mon CORA members...........lets see what ya got that needs saving.

For those who were not present @ the Michael Paletta presentation a few years ago, here are a few pics, you can see how nice the place is, it's really condusive to this kind of presentation.

For those of you in the area who have not had the pleasure of attending a lecture presented by Anthony this is one you certainly do not want to miss. Put everything else that might be going on off and schedule this into your calendar.
Anthony Calfo is a very entertaining speaker and really has a knack for talking to a large group of nerds. To have him in for our local club is huge, so please show your support by attending the meeting..

:)

Yeah this is going to be great, I really look up to Anthony. When he was still on RC he helped me with several things I was working on....Very nice guy.

I've got a merulina that has seen better days. Probably about half of it is dead skeleton. I'm bringing it in for the workshop. Who else is bringing in a coral for the salvage workshop?

I have a Lobophyllia that I think may be a good candidate.
I picked up from a Cleveland swap a couple of years ago and it done well for a long time but an Acan. grew too close and well you know what happened next. The Acan. stung the crap out of the Lobo. and now it has a nice ugly spot. The good thing is algae has not started to grow on the exposed part of the skeleton.
I've since relocated the Lobo. and it has recoved well but still has that dead area that I'd like to clean up since it doesn't look like it will ever grow over the old skeleton.

Dang it! My wife had to go and be born on the 24th... I will have to talk to her mother about convincing her she was born on the 25th... lol I will have to miss this one.

Things are shaping up for some nice giveaways to members at the meeting. A couple of our club sponsors, Aquatic Specialists and Rods Food, have committed to sending us items to give away. Big thanks to these 2 sponsors for stepping up for our members.

Do you have to be a member of CORA to attend this meeting? I'm from Toledo area and thought about making the drive down to C-bus to hear this talk.

Attendance is open to anyone. The more, the merrier  The only thing restricted to CORA members is the giveaways.

Hope to see you there.
