April Meeting

Reefing On My Mind
Team RC
I went to the Coral Reef today to talk about a good time for the meeting with Rob and Dave...

Friday night April 18th works best for them... Around 6pm...

We had a much better turnout for our Friday evening meeting than we did for our Saturday morning one...

Lets think of a topic... :)

how about "how to frag" there is alot of new people in the club and the upcoming frag swap. i think it would be a great topic.

We had that as our topic for the summer CR meeting... I'd be happy to do that again, but don't want to be too repetative... :)

If you guys do a fragging demo we have a dremel with a diamond cutting wheel for all you cutting pleasure

How could we work out a frag MOUNTING demo (on MY rocks). I have plenty of frags that I've failed to get to stick to a host rock!

or (tongue in cheek) how to remove all the hair algae from LR so it wont come back - with the added challenge of doing it with zoas attached.

Well you would have to bring your entire tank or we would have to mount YOUR frags in CR's tanks:lol:

They make these things called buckets... They seem to reproduce on my back porch too so I have no shortage of them.

Don:

Aquamend and Superglue Gel. Take frag out and dry bottom. Apply SG gel to bottom. Press Aquamend epoxy to SG after kneading epoxy. Apply more SG gel to epoxy. Place under water and press to the rock where you want it in a algae-free location. It will stick and will hold for years after it dries (a few hours).

Absolutely! 100% agree. The only ones I've found resistant to this type of fragging are some softies (like leathers, which are more easily pierced with a toothpick and rubberbanded to a rock). Sometimes you can get zoas to stick with just super glue as well, but the above method works really well!

Oh and back on topic...yeah...I can come. What are we doing about food? I've got to eat!

The frags would break off before you got them back home:p

Seriously the super glue/epoxy/super glue thing works very well for many people. I've always just used super glue gel though with good results. I hate how epoxy shuts down the skimmer for days.

Don~ I do the same as Dave/Mel/Chris... Except I usually don't mount to my larger rocks, only because I'm constantly moving crap so I can fit more in...

Melly~ Are you wanting to eat before or after the meeting??? I'm up for eating somewhere... :D

The problem with doing a LPS frag tutorial is that we would have to buy a LARGE piece and they tend to be rather expensive... We did the Blasto Merletti demo last year... I'd be more than happy to frag someone elses coral... lol ;)

If you guys really want to do a fragging demo, I can check with the BOD and see if the club wants to front the money and buy another colony from CR and then frag it at the meeting... That seemed to be a hit last year... :D

If not, we need another topic... lol ;)

I get the opposite results and have to limit the # I epoxy in for fear of skimmer overload.

How about a nice Aussie LPS before they shut that scene down in June?

I'd heard they were going to shut it down, but I didn't realize that it was going to be that soon... Hmmm, I was thinking of selling off a few of my Acans, that makes me reconsider...

Heard that from a couple of moderately-reliable sources, but also heard that they may be reconsidering, so who knows for sure, but I'm sure some people out there could follow up.

I second the motion for some nice acans or even another blastomussa. So, what happens with the frags afterwards?? highest bidder, door price, or does it disappear?

Um yeah I meant "makes it go crazy for days"

Can you tell I haven't used it in a while?
