had tons of aptasia i mean tons, nothing worked,i bought a file fish, and after a month or so it was all gone, not a single aptasia, the file fish got stuck on powerhead and died the next day, well within a few weeks ,alot of aptasia is back, not as much but a good amount like maybe 25 percent , its a good amount , why would that happen ? were their spores ,or small hidden ones ? could they have not gone away but stayed closed until its death ?? help

man i thought the fish ate the aptasia , how likely is it that they didnt get eaten but just hid by shrinking ? they look like different aptasia in different spots ?

Have you tried peppermint shrimp yet? I had 10 or so aptasia added 2 peppermints all were gone in a little over a week.

I had a small outbreak in my nano tank and added two peppermint shrimp. They devoured them within a few days as well.

And you never really eat rid of them... You are just controlling them. Overflows, plumbing, sumps, between rocks, are all places of survival.

My tank was overrun with Aptaisia. I tried all the different chemical solutions, but nothing worked. I tried peppermint shrimp, again no luck. Then I introduced some Berghias. Wow, within a month the tank is clear for the first time in 3 years. I could not believe it, but that is the way to go for me.

People have been using lasers lately maybe that's an option but I don't think you can ever get rid of them completely just control them unless you break down the tank, sorry

You need to get another file fish from the sound of if..

I would try a peppermint first. They don't depend on aptasia as there only food source. If that doesn't work you will still have a cool shrimp. Then get another file..

Agreed, you aren't killing them, just keeping them in check with the fish/shrimp. To truly kill them you will either have to kill your rock or kill them.

No such thing as a reef tank without aiptasia. No matter how careful you are, they're gonna ride in on something sooner or later.

Peppermint shrimp. Make sure you get the ones from the right ocean (Pacific or Atlantic)... Only one ocean's shrimp will eat Aptasia...

but I always forget which one it is...

Cause I already got mine and don't worry 'bout Aptasia anymore :)

Google it.
