Aptasia Finally Disappearing

I am extremely excited to announce my aptasia is disappearing. I'm really not sure if it's the Copperbanded Butterly or the Berghia actually made and the population has grown and is doing the trick. I looked at night with a flashlight to see if i saw any Burghia and didn't. Yes Grant i even used my glasses. I will continue to look.

Woo Hoo!

Even the Monterey bay aquariums has aiptasia

Ssteve it is very hit and miss with pep shrimp often time they won't eat the aptisa due the they find a better food source in you tank and will eat that instead. With fish that are natural aptisa eaters in the home aquarium you can cut back on there feeding and they will go after there natural prey

It's definately the Berghia I saw several thins morning before the lights came on. The thing about fish and shrimp is they can't get in the crevices. The berghia are small and can go every where

I would be interested in either buying more or buying some of yours Bob. Know that I know I have aiptasia. I've been nuking mine with kalk for the time being.

My Guess is they made it after one of the 3 times I bought them. Maybe the last time which had to be 2-3 months ago. It was amazing all the sudden the aptaisa started disappearing. I'm sure I have enough for anyone that wants them. i had a lot of aptasia and still have quite a bit and they are crawling all over the rock. I will try and sequester some and then post.

I am guessing it was not this most recent time. The eggs take 1-2 months to hatch into juveniles of like 3-5mm. Then they still need to grow to enough to eat that volume of aiptasia. My guess is it was from batches from 4-6 months back (or further) for enough eggs to have reached critical mass.

THAT or your adults are the ones doing the bulk of your eating.

Could be I bought them 3 times and theyve definately reached critical mass because they've put a huge dent in the aptasia.

How many did you buy in total and how big is your tank again? 160 lee mar? Where did your order if not from Ron? Any online shop referrals?

Glad the pests are going away!

I bought 3 times from Reef pest solutions. I have a Leemar approx 125 gal. I'm going to try and grab some when the lights are out so don't go buying them online. I will post as soon as I do. The times I've looked with the lights off there seems to be a good population and I had a ton of aptasia. I'm sure I've got enough to go around.

File Fish? No one mentioned a file fish. I bought a copperbanded butterly and I'm not sure if he's eating the Berghia. He doesn't eat the food i give to the other fish. He wont even eat arcti pods, but is happy and healthy so he must be eating something.
