Hey guys and gals, need some advice. Aptasia in my tank is getting waaaaay outta hand! Damn thing made it into my tank from a frag i didnt notice. started off as one and is now starting to take over my tank and stinging my corals! Whats the best way to get rid of these guys??

Ive tried a CBBF but that was a miss.....guy at the LFS showed me he was eating aptasia but he didnt even touch one in my tank!

My second try would be peppermint shrimps but would they deal with the larger ones?? Some of them has gotten quite large (bigger than a quarter).

I have kalk on hand to make paste but im not too familiar with that whole method. if your experienced with using kalk to eliminate aptasia please chime in and give me some pointers.

I have corals glued to smaller pcs of live rock that i can take out of the display but the rest are on my rock work that is pretty much stuck in place unless i tare down the whole tank (something i dont want to do at the moment).

I am planning on switching tanks in the near future but would like to deal with this issue now if i can.

Thanks for the help!

Tried injecting them with lemon juice or boiling water? I would eliminate as much a possible by hand and get some peppermint shrimp to do the rest.
Good luck!

You can order a couple Berghia Nudibranches. They are supposed to work awesome but once all the Aiptasia are gone you need to take them out and pass them on to someone else. They only eat Aiptasia and without any they would eventually starve. I have ordered a few and will get them in this weekend so I will know if this works based on first hand experience soon.

I bought a pair peppermints from Aquarium Showroom and within a week they ate about 7 aptasia. Tank is free of them and now my peppermints just feed on pellets that fall near them.

The size of the aptasia when fully open where resembled a quarter if not bigger.
