"Aptasia" Need Help!!!

I am in the midst of an Aptasia outbreak, How can I get rid of them?

I have heard that hot water through a needle next to them will work (it didn't). I also heard dosing them with Calcium will burn them(don't know if I want to try that one). I also bought a Peppermint Shrimp, no sign of him and the Aptasia keep multiplying. I really need help with this.

I use "Aptasia Control" by Red Sea and it works great. I would recommend placing the device next to your filter or something before dosing to get the excess off of it before it gets to your corals. Just my opinion, you should be able to find it at your LFS.

copperband and auriga butterflys eat them just make sure you research that they will work with everything else you have. also the peppermints work but depending on your tank size you prob need more than one. they need long aclimation. and certain predator fish eat them. you could find some bergia ( i think that is the spelling or berghia) nudibrancs. they do not tolerate nitrates though so you ight check that first. and yes the red sea stuff is great, just follow the instructions to the letter. like turn of all pumps ( no water movement)

If the aptaisia are large, some peppermint wont touch em, They will keep the smaller ones eaten up, just not the big ones.

I use Aiptasia-X by Red Sea, have used it for a long time, have not had an aiptasia come back after being hit by the stuff. Great Stuff.

I have tried Joes Juice and peppermint shrimp without success. Finally tried simple kalk paste applied with a syringe, and it worked extremely well, and inexpensive too.

Joe's Juice + peppermints. For a 55g I'd recommend 2 peppermints.
If they really are aiptasia and you get real peppermint shrimp, it works every time. If you want them gone really fast, keep the peppermints in another tank for a few days and don't feed them. Once in the infested tank it's like a buffet!

If you use a syringe with hot water you do not use a needle. You have to blast the hot water directly onto the aptasia. You have to do this quick before it closes up. We had a 29 gal tank that was infested with Aptasia and we kill all of them by this method plus a couple of peppermint shrimp. Once the aptasia is dead it will let go. We then sucked them out with a turkey baster or the syringe.
We use boiling water to kill anything in our tank that is a nuisance. Don has used boiling water to kill a bacteria infection on a leather coral. The leather survived.

Hot water works for me as well on aiptasia and more. I regularly use it to keep my star polyps from invading my acans.

I've used lemon juice in a syringe with needle. Had great results.

I had the same problem w/ some new lr I recieved from someone. I used Joes juice for the ones I could get to and three peppermint shrimp (150 gl) for the remaining ones. They were all gone within a few weeks. Never had a problem again.

I've started using hot white vinegar in a needle and syringe, even if they start to close up I stab the little buggers with the needle and inject away. Seems to be working thus far, they aren't coming back.

Joe's Juice has worked well for me also. However I have noticed some new Aiptasia will sneak up somewhere new in a month or so. I just keep some Joe's Juice on hand and zap 'em whenever one shows up.
