Aptasia Nudi

All the small aptasia are gone...Whooo Hooo...just the two large ones left and they are sucked deep back in the rock for some reason. The Pearlscale seems to be checking out all the rockwork, every now and then she darts against it with her mouth like she is sucking something out of the crevaces.

there is a company that sells the mysisd shrimp from the ocean. I think you can get them from DFW scott. They have liek 65% protein compared to sanfrisco bay with 6%

Even if from the ocean they do not have the protein values claimed by the two manufacturers stating it is 10x that of brine. Those manufacturers have actually not followed the standards set by the dept of weights and measures. They are doing an analysis of the shrimp as a wet weight not dry like all other manufacturers. This is the whole reason mysis got rave reviews years ago and why everyone feeds them now. It is a source of great contention for the current "big two" frozen manufacturers. When it comes down to it, it's like a lot of other products in our industry...."snake oil". Who knew fish ran out of slime coat...good thing I have this aloe vera product!!!!!!

Glad to hear the Pearlscale is working for you. I've tried peppermint shrimp and a copperbanded and neither really worked. Maybe someday I'll get a pearlscale too. I've wanted one anyway. Keep us updated!

By the way boys, I didn't know it was possible to have such a long debate over dead, frozen shrimp... Power to ya. ;)

Ah! You've just GOT to see the debates about to sand or not to sand a tank (DSB vs BB). Oh my, you think this is deep.

And now for my silly debate..... ;)

I think there is just WAY too much out there in literature by a WIDE variety of recognized experts that mysid are one of the best zooplankton foods for marine aquariums. I think a comparison to snake oil is a little unfair.

I've lost 2 PS butterfly after they cleaned out the aptaisia. I am VERY interested in your experiment. I'd love to get another PSB, but not if it dies in 60 days...

I have the added complication of a large maroon clown and a medium yellow tang, both harassed my ps when they were introduced and (I suspect) kept them from eating, especially after the glass anemones were gone.

The Pearlscale has completely anialated any aptasia in the tank. Including two that were about the size of a quarter in diameter. She is now chasing the Green Chromis' around the tank and digging in the sand. Maybe I am not feeding her enough...

Way freaking cool!!! :) I can't wait to hear a report from my older brother. His 75 gallon tank was very much infested (i.e. rocks covered) with Aiptasia.

Great fish...but hit or miss [like any I suppose]. I just put one in a 75 that had 6 aptasia and the fish has no interest in consuming them.

Paul, she hits the rock pretty hard. I thought I had a Mantis Shrimp in the tank until I noticed her hitting at something in the rocks. She has been grabbing something out of the sand also...
