aptasia on crocea

My crocea has an aptasia attached to the shell in a crease just below the mantle.
I've tried scraping it off with the clam out of the water, but can't really get to the base. Maybe a freshwater dip? I'm afraid to use kalk into the aotasia for fear of getting it into the clam. Any ideas?

i dont think a dip would do much of anything.

try this. tank the clam out of the tank and scrape as much off as you can and then dry that area of the shell and then put just enough gel type superglue over the aiptasia. keep the clam out of the water just long enough for the glue to harden and also hold the clam so that no glue drips down into the clam or touches the mantle

i used a toothbrush...since then i have been using it all over my reef, an indispensable tool if you ask me!

Ditto with what the poo-tang says. I brushed my clams often. Sponges, aptasia, nothing got by me :)

I've used the superglue trick before with mixed results. While the anemone didn't come back on that spot, in more porous rock, it'd just show its ugly head a few millimeters away.

Brush an aiptasia???

Brush an aiptasia???

I assume that you take the clam out of the tank before you go to work on an aiptasia with a tooth brush... (???)

Seems like a great way to spread aiptasia all over your tank...

Re: Brush an aiptasia???

I guess I should have clarified...

When I do water changes, I sometimes, as needed, use a toothbrush, zip tied to a length of hose (1/4 inch diameter) and scrub(ed) the clam shells and other areas of LR that I may find hydroids, nusiance algae etc. While I'm scrubbing, I'm also siphoning out the algae and other nasties.

Thank you all for the feedback. problem solved. I removed it from the tank, brushed it well with toothbrush and rinsed with some tank water over the sink. That was over 2 weeks ago. So far so good.
