aptasia on frag

I bought a frag of zoas and noticed that there is aiptasia growing in the middle of the disk. I did a search on how to kill them and two options were to get a mixture of kalk and water or boiling water into a syringe and shoot it at the aptasia. Now since I do not have any kalk I will try the boiling water first. My question is will this harm the zoas that are surrounding it? If it does not work and I use the kalk would this harm them?

If these techniques do not work I am thinking of just halfing the frag and tossing or selling the half that still has the aiptasia on it. How long do I have before this one aiptasia starts to reproduce in my tank? How destructive are they, should I be worried a little or a lot?

having had the same thing happen to me, I would halve the rock immediately and toss it. One of my first purchases was a rock with mushrooms and it had an aiptasia, and I didn't know what it was, so I left it there, thought it was just a random hitchhiker...within a month, it had spread like crazy, and it was a year long battle before peppermint shrimp did the trick. I would get rid of it today, it will reproduce before you know it, and if you can keep your tank free of these spawn of satan, do it!!

+1 on the peppermint shrimp. I had some show up on my live rock shortly after I started my tank. Added 3 peppermints and they ate it all within 3 days.

A copperband will be your best solution. Look it up

Very negative!!!

Only some copperbands will go after aiptasia.. They are not 100% aiptasia eaters.

-quarantine the frag.. and blast with vinegar (boiled) will be a cheap easy option.
