Aptasia

So my 65 gallon just finished nitrogen cycle. I look in the sump and spot aptasia on a rock in there. I bought some chaeto from a lfs about a week ago and it came in that. That is the only thing that could have introduced it. All my rock was dry when I started. Ughhhhhh. So frustrating. I haven't even put anything in yet. I removed the rock. I see a tiny one on the wall of the fuge. Going to put some berghia (spelling) nudis so hopefully they will take care of any smaller ones I can't see.:sad2:

It's like concentrated Pure Evil, all it takes is a little spec and you're wasted:)

I am going to get a syphon hose on the one on the side of the fuge. I will put the nudis in to hopefully take care of anything in there I can't see. The one on the fuge wall is tiny and I almost missed it. I suppose I should get all the rock and chaeto out of the fuge. I have about 2 inches of sand but will leave it in.

Accept the reality that is aiptasia in a reef tank. Join the dark side! Just keep them in check with peppermint shrimp, aiptasia eating filefish or nudis....Or start over like nook said...

Very true! I was perfect for two years then got D Smacked with some wc Vietnam softies.

I'm assuming they will end up in display tank. Is that not correct?
they can and will ive had them and never had a real problem with them and im lazy and kinda cheap. so id say freaking out isnt needed just something to eat them like the nudis or some pepermint shrimp.

Depending on tank size, can't Kalkwasser raise calcium levels more than ideal?

If I have a problem with pests, I like to let nature take care of it... Like Get peppermint shrimp.

Only the amount that actually mixes with freshwater will end up going into the water column. The rest will precipitate out.

I have had plenty of success with Aiptasia-X and plenty of patience hunting the little buggers...

I ended up removing the chaeto and putting back in a smaller amount that I had inspected for any pests. All looked good for a few weeks. I then noticed a small aptasia on a rock in the display tank. After close inspection I counted four very small aptasia in the dt. Yesterday I bought 3 peppermint shrimp and put them in. Today I can't find any aptasia whatsoever. I was skeptical it would work at all, but had no idea it would work that fast! I think I need to go to the seafood isle of my local grocery store and buy them a treat.
