Aptasis hardiness

 OK, here is some evidence regarding the unfortunate hardiness of aptasia anenomes. I removed a rock that had some aptasia anenomes since I am trying to keep my new display pest free. I removed the rock for one day and set it on the floor for one full day. The rock was still moist when I placed it back in the display. Within a half hour, the anenomes looked as robust as ever. I then took the rock out for two days....with the same result. I will continue the experiment and try for three days. I will continue this until I see how long it takes to eradicate them. I just hope I outlive the aptasia~!

aptasia-x works very well Jerry. At least then you will out live them lol. Besides it's fun watching them implode.

Thanx Dave. A kalkwasser slurry also works well. I'm just curious at this point to see how long these guys can live out of the water. Who wants to place bets on the longest these guys can live outside of the display. My guess is that three days might be the max. Of course that would be shorter if i placed the rock out in the sun where the rock would dry more thoroughly.

There is a local guy here that used at torch on a piece of rock and left it out of the tank for a couple months and claims the aiptasia still survived.

Jerry if you leave it longer aren't you concerned with the rest of the rock having die off which could effect the tank parameters? Unless we are talking about small rock of course.

OK so I took the rock out for three days, placed it back in the tank and the aptasia are still present. So now i will experiment with four days out of the water. I will report back.

I give it 7 days until they just don't pop back out, but i give it 20 days for actual death to occur

I would but I’m spending all of my money on corals Jerry. A surer bet is that you are getting some of my money.
