1) When does the micro bubbles stop?

2) Will it effect the health of the fish?

3) When does it start collecting gunk.

It's been running for 3 days with no collection

These skimmers are very sensitive. If you put your hands in the tank, they stop foaming, add food or chemicals, they stop foaming. It will usually take them a couple of hours to start foaming again. If this is a new unit, like all other skimmers, it can take days to weeks for it to start to produce anything. Its called the inicial break in period. When it finally breaks in, the bubbles will stop a bit.

Mine took about 2 eeks to really start working well. I started mine at the lowest point and once it stated collecting about a 1/2 cup of iced-tea colored skimmate a day I moved the cup up about 3/4 of an inch and now it pull about a 1/4 cup of black skimmate a day. As far as the bubbles it took almost a month and there is still some 4 months into using. So far the bubbles have not hurt anything. I have resorted to only running the skimmer when the lights are off.

I've just gotten my EV-120 so I'm doing the break in thing too. I'm running my old SeaClone 150 at the same time--does nothing. it will sometimes go days w/o foaming.

Does the break in period just allow it to get 'slimed' up? I set mine up in the sink for two days before I hooked it up. Threw in some salt, old water and skimmate out of my old skimmer. Started making a little foam the first night.

Can't wait for this new one to get workin'

I cleaned mine with water in the sink first, then like devildogg,I put my cup down all the way and waited about 2-3 days before foaming. Emptied the cup and adjusted up for a few days to get a thicker mix
