I have a chance to buy a used Aqua C Remora skimmer really cheap, but the collection cup is broken at the bottom. Does anyone think this will affect the operation?

They don't have the piece that broke off. Is there some kind of liquid acrylic I could use to fill in what's missing?

I guess you could make a mold and just pour a bunch of weld-on in it.

You could dremel the remain acrylic off and try to fabricate the bottom part then glue it on.

Or you could just get a new collection cup. Runs $31 that includes shipping from aquariumpart.com

Check the sold items box and the used item box on the left hand side of ebay when you do a search for "aquac skimmer". You'll find the going rate for a used remora. These skimmers are amazing. I swear by them best hang on skimmer for a nano hands down.

Great, now you're going to bid against me. I think I'm going to pass on this one anyway.

I almost had one with a good collection cup today for $40, but someone else bid $41 with 20 seconds to go. :mad2:

A working remora for less than $50 with a pump is a deal. Try to get the new cobalt mj1200 they are suppose to be very quiet.

I've always used Marineland Maxi-Jets. They are my favorite pumps and seem to be perfectly matched to the Remora I already have. I bought this skimmer about 10 years ago (unfortunately I paid full price), and I've only had to replace the pump once. The current one has been running 24/7 for about 4 years. Power outages and even running dry for a while don't seem to affect it at all.

The Cobalt looks almost identical to the Maxi-Jet so they might have the same manufacturer. The Cobalt costs about $10 more, so maybe it is better/quieter, although my Maxi-Jet never makes any discernible noise unless it touches the glass. If the Cobalt is truly an improvement over the Maxi-Jet, it must be one awesome pump.
