I have a used one coming to me this week from a very nice and generous board member. I am not sure what pump it has with it, is the maxijet 1200 or rio 800 better? Also does the drain cup or regular cup work better? Do I need the prefilter box? Better with it or no? Also I guess its missing the O-ring for cup adjustment, I thought I could go to ace hardware and pick one up, anyone know the dimensions on the o-ring?

I think you will not be happy with that skimmer.

Really? Why? I currently use a D&D Typhoon hang on. It frustrates me. It seems to need constant breaking down and cleaning to work good. When it works it works well, but the cleaning frustrates me.

The remora you may find to be noisy. You will need at least the maxi 1200 to run it. It uses a spray injector to put air in not a venturi. I also own a D&D typhoon as a back up skimmer. I found it worked well as long as the cup was cleaned on a regular basis. I did a breakdown every 6 mos. I also modified the the return with a valve to have better water height control. I no longer had to put my hands in the tank to adjust that ridiculous slit. The remora either works well or not. I replaced the typhoon with a Esohpps hang on. It works well.

My Typhoon seems to get clogged up at the air inlet for the venturi. Even blowing canned air in the inlet line doesnt usually help. The venturi also gets dirty fast. Its wierd. I have a air pump hooked up to the air line to help it perform better. It will work great for about 3 weeks or so, and then stop working and need a complete breakdown and cleaning. Tired of that.:angryfire:

I heard good things about the aquac remora hang on, now I am not so sure...:uhoh2:

I used to have a Remora Pro on my old 56 gal. and I loved it. Not noisy, and did a good job. I ran it with a mag 3 pump, and although it was a bit obtrusive, it pulled a lot ofcrap out of the tank.

on my 90g tank i use a remora pro which is rated for up to a 125g tank. i love mine. i run it with a mag 3 pump. i agree with Jerry W, it is obtrusive but oh well, it's pulling a lot of crap out of my tank.
