Aqua C Remora Nano Owners, Please post your reviews

i have mine hooked up to a 7Gal been using it for 2 month. Its's ok but there seems to be WAYY to many micro bubbles.... im looking at the TUNZE nano DOC as another option.

I put some filter floss where it drains back into the tank and that has helped. So far mine is not producing foam though.

I went with the Tuzne DOC first and unfortunately I could not fit in to the little aquapod sump area. I modded my pod and did not have room....... it looks like a great little skimmer.

I purchased mine used from someone on this site. It was used for a month when I got it, hooked it up and is doing a good job. I can't compare it to any other nano skimmer because I haven't seen any other nano skimmers in action. I run a aqua C remora in my 45 and I think they both do a very good job, less bubbles then the larger skimmer. I think it's a good skimmer, it did pull out a cup full of dark green water in a weeks time.

for the price go with the Tunze Nano the Deltec is awsome if you have the $$or if you have a sump look for a used Euro Reef, I just p/u a like new ES5-2 for $140 and can't wait till I get it set up on the 29g I am building

these skimmers are hand made. with that being said each one is different. The one that I recieved does an ok job, but in my opinion it's not worth the money. I could have gone with a ccs 65 like the cube that I have. Now granted the nano is a 3 gal and that may be overkill, but it's not that i am unhappy with it. I just thought that it would do much more than it does.

well i just figured out the problem with my nano remora not skimming. i was running chemipure in an aquaclear filter. i turned that off for a few hours and the nano remora has started skimming like a champ. i can't believe all the foam it's producing - now i just have to adjust the cup.

How much better could it really be? I guess it depends on the size of the tank. I have a 10 gallon tank and it takes out a cup of green water in a little over a week. But I do a 2-3 gallon water change a week. I'm saying that a skimmer in my system isn't really needed but I'd rather have an overkill of filtration than to not have enough filtration.

@fantastic4, how big is your tank? If you have a 12 ga or less, IMO I would say as long as you keep up a weekly water change a skimmer is not needed.

Was considering buying this unit for a 10 gallon I had running. Found a few threads stating similar complaints about lack of skimming in comparison to the nice results of the big brother and pro versions. So I called them directly and asked, the guy at AquaC was very nice. This is what he told me.

In their testing, their seems to be a correlation in skimming efficiency with pump size and internal dimensions. They noted the Remora Pro with Mag3 was optimal. I always assumed the bigger the pump, the better the bubbles, the better the skim, they stated that this was not true, the dimensions of the internal design seems to work better with a certain rate of water. They went on to state the nano skimmer was not as efficient for the reasons mentioned above -- internal dimensions to pump size -- but stated it was a good option if you needed a skimmer that would not overheat or over power a small nano tank, like a pico. The Remora Regular with maxi was also rated high. He also stated the extra large collection cup option is not a good buy, as the tube dimensions were not optimal in thier testing for best skimming, he said stick with the cup that comes with the unit.

So I ended up buying the regular with maxi, it works really well. Took a week to kick in and for sound to be reduced. I added the paper towel mod and it can not be heard at all -- literally, the water trickling is louder.

I must say, I really like AquaC, they came off as honest and true to the hobby spirit.

I would like to know what the paper towel method is too! =) I just tested my Remora Pro and it was so loud! I don't think I'd be able to sleep with it this loud. I am putting mine in my sump. Yes I know I should have went with the Urchin, but I messed up. I thought I was doing all Hang On The Back. Well, I changed my mind. I'd love to know how I can save this noise. Did I maybe not have the skimmer cup on right? Of course, I did test it with freshwater just to make sure it worked. This was when I first purchased it. I am still waiting for everything to be set up.

ahhhh.... you guys/girls don't know about the paper towel mod? hehee, it's the best freaken mod you will ever, EVER, do to your AquaC. Believe me when I say it will be ultra quiet in comparison to how it runs un-moded.

This is what you do.....

Grab a papwer towel, I like to use the better ones, but any will do, I'm talking about the Bounty 1' foot size kitchen paper towel. Now take off your collection cup and look down. You will see the spray nozzle with screw on top on one side, bubble collection in the middle and just an opening on the other side. Now fold your paper towel (I like to use two) to the point it will fit very snug into the spray bar side only. Get the towel damp, not soaking wet, just damp. Now place it right on top of the bar opening side. Just squeeze it in so it sits right on top with no openings. You will have to mess around with your folding technique to get the size just right. "Voila" Place collection cup back down and listen to your Brand new AquaC Super Quiet Skimmer.

That's it.... nothing to it, trust me on this... it will not affect your skimmig at all, will not fall in the skimmer, break apart or negatively affect the operation. I know this as I have read 100 posts on people testing every aspect of this mod. Replace paper towel with new one as needed -- about once a month.

;)

@fantastic4.....Wait a minute you run a regular aqua c remora on your 10 ga tank? If so, NICE!

G13, yes I took the risk... (The tank is down now, upgraded it to a 33 gallon cube)

My results. On a 10 gallon regular, the AquaCRemora Regular with Maxi was awesome. The hieght of the unit was perfect, if just sat on the back of the table that the tank was sitting on. The maxi did heat the water a little, but this was fine as I just lowered the heater... the maxi seemed to keep a constant heat exchange, so with proper heater setting, the tank was stable. As for flow, the Remora did not overpower the tank at all, I had live rock in it and it was a like a small power head... actually I had to add a micro power head to increase circulation as the Remora's outake was to confined. I would setup a 10 gallon with a Remora/Maxi combo again if I needed it up.

Conclusion, get the Remora Regular if you can fit it on your tank, the extra flow and skimming is well worth the effort.
