aqua C remora skimmer question.. problem or not?

Yeh, Jason is out of town right now though, he won't be back in until wed. but the support staff is awesome.

It's ok to adjust the white screw with the water running, you just have to do it slowly...SLOWLY. I start off by screwing it in so there's barely 1mm sticking out, then slowly back it out until I see a bit of water trickling out the sides. Then I turn it back in a bit till it stops so I figure that's optimum flow. I use to run it w/o any o-ring, but since xenias like dirtier water, I've since then raised it up an inch to reduce skimming. I still need to clean out the cup once a week at least.

If the maxijet works fine, and you said you are not getting alot of water returning back to the tank , then the intake piping might be clogged. Since you are not getting water comming out of the cleaning screw hole.

ok, i unscrewed the white screw and it blew like old faithful.

then I turned off the pump and stuck that little cleaning fuzzy stick in the whole (i kill myself) and shoved it down there, it came out clean and nothing changed on my skimmer, it still isn't producing much skim.

what to do next?

Give it a week or two, it should do fine seeing as how you have the pump working as it should. They usually have to go thru a break in period before they start skimming. How high above the main body of the skimmer do you have the top of the skimmer cup? If it is way high then you won't get anything for a bit longer but if the top of the skimmer cup is about 2-3 inches above the main body of the skimmer you will get results faster.

I bought the skimmer used so it was already broken in. and the water outtake is the same. nothing has changed.
the skimmer cup is as low was possible as I took off the O ring

Are you able to look into the body of the skimmer while it's running? If your tank is against the back of the wall, you'll most likely be unable to, but if you are, check to see how much water is spraying into the chamber, it should resemble what it would look like if you were to take a hose and spray into a bucket of water. Also, you can try my trick of elevating the exit side if the skimmer a bit like 1-2mm, this allows more bubbles to flow towards the reaction tower thus increasing output, hth.
