Aqua clear and mediabags Carbon and GFO

I was wondering if I could just add bulk carbon and GFO to media bags and place them in my HOB aqua clear 70 for my 55 gal tank. any suggestions or should I get a media reactor. I do not have a sump and don't think I will be adding a sump in the near future. I also have a HOB CPR areo force 2 skimmer.

GFO and carbon work best in a reactor but will be fine in the filter, but not quite as effecive. Rinse both well with RO/DI and turn the backs weekly to keep the flow going.

I think I will start this way and then get a reactor in the future thanks for the input.
