I just bought the first gen. a used one and I removed the impeller so I could soak it in vinegar and I am having problems putting it back together, it seems that the outer ring with all the teeth on it just goes over the pump and does not twist on tight at all, just fits over, I am not sure if this is correct so I am putting it out here.
Does it just twist and lock? or just fit over the pump assembly loosely?

Thanks all for checking in. I figured it out, you must make sure that the black piece that holds the impeller is fully seated, and then the outside ring will just twist on.
