Aqua Medic Ballast ALL SMOKED UP and WENT BOOM!!!!!

My Aqua Medic 250 watt Ballast started smoking tonight and burnt up. Good News it decided to do it in front of me. Bad News its Toast!!!!! Does anyone know if I can use another brand ballast to replace it???? If so does anyone have one they wanna get rid of before I buy online??? Ben


Also on a side note I finally got around to doing a fire inspection of my shotty wiring job from my rookie days of setting the tank up. I am now in the process (Day3 to be exact) of re-wiring my fish room to code. Good thing for the 300 gallon extingisher standing by huh!!!! lol

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble Ben. You should be able to replace it with just about any MH 250w ballast. I have a Hamilton HQI 250w ballast and pendant you could borrow if you need it to keep things alive. I was thinking about selling it but you have your reflectors already.

The one I have has 2x actinic PC bulbs and a 250w SE MH in the middle of a fan-cooled pendant with quick disconnects and the PC ballast is inside the pendant.

Let me know if you can't find something and need it for a while.

Hey ben, i have 2 basic 250 watt ballasts in boxes if you want id like 40 Bucks a piece.

I have an aqua medic 250 pendent and ballast you can have for $150 the bulb was used for about 3 months I think it a 14K
